Is this pitting edema? i.e press against the swollen areas in your legs and see if the depression stays.
The fluid retention could be due to an electrolyte in-balance, or venous insufficiency (is there a red-purple discolouration?) (excuse the British/Canadian spelling).
Diuretics, (water pills), exercise and compression stockings are all things that you can do to get rid of this, (weight loss if you are over weight will also do wonders). The exercise and compression stockings (should be available at the Drug Store or a health care store) you can do today, you also need to see your Dr. about this as well. If they think it is excessive you may be put in diuretics to remove the fluid. Please do NOT ignore this as excess fluid puts a lot of strain on your heart and can lead to Congestive Heart Failure.

Try taking some diuretics or water pills. They help you urinate more which helps relieve the swelling in your legs and feet. Also reduce your salt intake and drink plenty of fluids. Do keep your feet elevated because that also helps with the swelling. You might have to go to the doctor to get a prescription for the water pills but I am pretty sure that you can get them at a pharmacy store.

Elevate your legs higher than your torso. Lie back and prop your back up with a pillow or two. Stack several pillows under your legs and be sure to keep them up for the duration you're lying down. (If you do this overnight, you should notice a lot of reduction by morning)
Also, be sure to drink lots of water. Water, believe it or not, will help to pass the excess fluids out of your system much faster than if your body thinks it has to retain that water because of even mild dehydration.

excess fluid in the legs and feet can be a very dangerous condition....it could be a heart condition...or...a blood clot... you need to go to the doctor and have tests run...
or it might not be any big deal and you just need a duiretic...but find out first before you start taking anything...
and if you are on a diuretic...you might need to be on potassium supplements too..... but don't play around too much with potassium on your own because a potassium imbalance can also cause serious heart problems

My legs and feet swell when I travel.
To relieve the swelling, soak your feet and legs in cool water. Drink lots of water, avoid sodium and elevate your feet.
In the future, before you know something will make you swell, wear some light compression socks and keep well hydrated.
