its impossible. People will always be prejudiced, stereotyping, and hating.
You stereotype too. What are you looking at right now? You know its computer monitor, right? Or do you? You look at the shape and features of it and make that generalization that it is a computer monitor. Its the same when you look at people. When you see someone who wears certain clothes or acts a certain way, you are going to make generalizations about it.
In short, there is no way to stop the hating and labeling. Sit back and watch them for entertainment. Thats what I do!

Oh, geez...very good question.
My fiancee is very prejudiced and I find it very difficult to deal with. I am not at all, so when he goes on a tirade I get upset and it really affects me. I have talked to him about this until I'm blue in the face, but it was SO ingrained in him as a kid that I'm not sure he will ever quit. I can't really say it's a general, overall prejudice, however it is really stereotype based. He likes a FEW people of different races (those who have made something of themselves, who are not taking from society as a whole or on welfare), but for the most part has nothing good to say about the races overall...I hate it. We get along great but this ONE area could very well tear us apart. I have children and I do NOT want them exposed to that kind of attitude. He knows this and he is trying, but I won't say 'I do' until I see definite change.
So, in answer to your question, who knows? For most people this sort of thing is their raising and it's hard to change that. You can talk and talk, reason and logic won't change their mind if that's the way they really feel. It's a shame.

Stand up. If we all stand up for what we believe then they may stop... Remember, birds of a feather flock together. If you're hanging out with someone who is prejudice then you will be perceived as the same. The scary part is someone like pintobns above who has her kids exposed to a hateful person. What is she teaching them to combat what her boyfriend is saying? Children are not born into this world with hate, they are taught this.

Until all people of certain cultures stop keeping their stereotypes alive, people are going to continue to label and hate.

I would say... Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and ideals, but let the person know that you are uncomfortable with the topic and would rather talk about something you both have in common.

grow up. the world is harsh, and the only way to cope is to put people into stereotypical groups. and remember, stereotypes wouldn't persist if there wasn't any truth to them

Be super nice.
Sometimes it turns them around.
Most times it just make them crazy (more fun to watch).
