BTW, I only mean once in a great while. I have him on Life's Abundance as his regular food. It's just that I have got some canned fish from a friend. Tuna I'll eat but not salmon or sardines. My cat was just awhile ago sitting in the box and rubbing his face all over the cans and meowing at me - you know how they beg.

Yes, and you would have a VERY HAPPY CAT! Be sure that the cat also gets a good 'dry catfood' to get all of the 'other stuff' it needs, like veggies and starch ... but if you leave a 'bowl of dry' out all day, and just give it the 'canned fish' at dinner time, it will definitely be a very happy and HEALTHY cat ... there are 'oils' in those two fish that a cat 'really needs' even more than a human does. And the 'bones' are completely edible, and are also 'good for the cat' so leave them in ...

Cats love fish, but sardines may be a little salty - make sure there is plenty of water available for kitty. My cat enjoys tuna...well, the juice anyway, she'll lick all the juice off and leave the rest to sit :P

Probably not. I would probably buy some actual fresh salmon and offer that instead. I probably wouldn't give a cat sardines, but I would give them shrimp, fish, or tuna once in awhile. (Tuna, canned)

I would NEVER, especially if you have male cats!! anything with fish is a no no

"TUNA FOR CATS? NO!
Tuna can be fatal to cats and is not something to be fed to them...The human variety of tuna fish contains an enzyme that destroys vitamin B1 (thiamine). Cats who regularly eat tuna can develop a vitamin B1 deficiency, which results in neurological symptoms like dilated eyes, loss of equilibrium, seizures and death if this vitamin is not replaced. The scientific name of this disease is polioencephlomalacia."

neither. fish, contrary to popular belief is very bad for cats. i am getting my information from the cornell university feline institute.we all gre up believing cats like fish and rabbits like lettuce.feeding lettuce to a cute helpless little bunny will send it into kidney failure and death. i was very amazed when i read this book freom cornell university. cats supposedly have 9 lives. thats probably where the idea came from-because cats in fact are so fragile. there are so many things that can easily kill your cat including fish, chocolate, onions etc. if you love your kitty as i do love mine please go to the library and seek out this book from the cornell unibversity feline institute. it is a reference book so you cannot check it out. i photocopied over 100 pages. it has made me sure that my cat who i have had since age 5 weeks and is now 7yrs old will remain happy and healthy as long as possible.sorry to put a dent in your dilemma of which one to feed your kitty.just love animals and thought i should share this info. why does the fda allow pet food companies to put out such things if it is harmful. i am a nurse of 21 years and wonder that about people things too.they allow it because it is financially lucrative to the pharmaceutical companies, doctors aas well as verts. do not feed your kitty fish.it is not good for them. there are lots of plants too that can harm your cat. i have had to give up alot once i got my kitty.it kind of pissed me off in the beginning but i love him more than the stuff i miss. i hope this was helpful and i hope that you go to the library and learn all you can about these things . i was amazed. yes, kitty loves the smell of fish and will go crazy eating it but....he would do the same thing to a bowl of antifreeze.get my drift. good luck and many happy years with your kitty

No. Cats are attracted to fish because of the smell but the high taurine content is actually harmful to them.

It can lead to many health problems, including UTI.

Cats need some taurine in their diet to prevent blindness or other eye problems, but the high content in fish can also lead to other problems.

You're better off feeding them a well balanced cat food that has acceptable levels of taurine in it.

Oh yea, they'll really like you for that.

And don't listen to that crap about sardine bones. If humaniods can eat them I guarantee you a cat can. Hell, I had a circus cat that ate glass and it lived to be 17 years old.

I can't think of a reason not to. Is there something wrong with doing that? I don't want to do anything that would hurt em, if its bad for them I'd like to know. Mostly they eat dry food because supposedly its easier on their systems than canned food.
