I see the point you are making.
If men are naturally fallen, which is obvious, religion can only help not hurt them. If we are sinners even when we follow God, imagine how bad off we are as sinners who reject Him.
I mean, what have you got to lose by following God?

what makes you think that anything would be different if we followed religion. It's not a secular thing its a human thing. Naturally us humans are prone to do things that most would consider evil. That's just the way it is. I know this because I was once a Christian and I stilled acted the same way I do now (I'm Atheist). I have Christian friends too that don't follow everything the Bible says. So religion really doesn't matter, unless it's one of those extreme ones which say that you will go to hell if you make some guy on an Internet forum cry. And if everyone followed a strict religion like that, then the only reason we would be acting nice is because we would be scared to go to hell.

Maybe, but we get a good example with the Netherlands, the Netherlands is not such a bad place I mean good health system equal rights, however, a cesspool of moral problems (you know what I mean if you have ever been to Amsterdam). Then we look at Iran, or a few years ago Afghanistan and we see a theocracies which were highly unsuccessful. The good place lies in the middle, and the U.S. should strive to be a country with equal rights, yet with moral standards.

"Is secular humanism proved wrong simply by forums like this?"
No.
Do you typically judge all of those who hold to a particular way of life by the hand full of people who frequent R&S?
People are not naturally evil. This is a construct of the self-hating abrahamic religions. If people were naturally evil than the entire world would have collapsed long ago.
People naturally and inherintly want security, community, and happiness. Unfortuantely this makes somes people do "evil" things.

Secular humanism does not put forth the theory that ALL human beings, regardless of their personalities, flaws, biases, etc. will all be "cured" by rejecting religion and learning morality from humanistic teachings. Rude people can be found in every part of the world, and it has nothing to do with religion, philosophy, politics, gender, race or sexual orientation. Perhaps you'd be better off questioning how religion is flawed since there are rude, disrespectful, shallow, self-righteous, hateful and crass people who profess to be Christians following the example of Jesus Christ.
But we're all flawed, and no teaching can completely free us from our opinions, biases, prejudices or intolerance for some things. For example, I'm one of the nicest people when you get to know me, but I can't stand Republicans. It's just a character trait that I can't overcome, no matter how much I tell myself they are just people with different opinions.

Are you suggesting that the human beings contributing to this talk board are representative of humanity? perhaps you're taking it somewhat to noticeably. a great variety of the human beings contributing to this talk board have no real interest in philosophy, they only are mildly entertained via pulling peoples legs. genuinely everyone isn't intrinsically evil. in maximum cases they're thoughtless and thoughtless, to no longer point out to no longer vibrant at circumstances. Judging via somewhat some the posts right here, i'm guessing that a number of them are quite bored too. Secular humanism derives its morals from good judgment, no longer from thoughts approximately organs in the circulatory equipment. someone could be stable, "human beings" although are advise, self accepted and ignorant. submit to in recommendations - as Bertrand Russell pronounced: "the secret to happiness is submit to in recommendations the international is terrible, terrible, terrible. on the different hand - have a staggering day!

I've seen no "evil" on this board. Some general snarkiness from all sides, but no evil.
You do realize, of course, that those who believe they are "sinful" and "forgiven" are generally just as mean as those who think the concept of sin is antiquated. I think both systems are flawed, but humanism has a leg up: it involves no superstitious invocations of deities, no magic, and no threats of punishment to provoke good behavior. People have the capacity to be moral, and I believe they are moral far more often than they are not.

Well, people are a mix bag, aren't they. A good man does foul things, a foul man does a redeeming act. I don't think it makes sense to condemn humanity because you can find "sin" in every man.
Compassion and reason are good guides to ethical behavior. It is a mistake to discard them in favor of superstitions and mystically inspired sacred text.

Of course man is inherently evil. That has nothing to do with god. I can not change someone else conduct. Only my own.
Like you said. "let each one of us decide what is right and what is wrong.

hahaha. wow.
of the billions of websites on the internet somehow THIS one is evidence that secular living is bad.
how convenient.
sorry bud, morality is determined by society. if we lived by your (christian/abrahamic) moral code then wed be going to stonings every day.
this forum has shown that people arent exactly willing to sit back and beleive your fairy tales are fact simply because they make yo ufeel bettr.
if you beleive that people speaking truthfully (even though it pains you) is evil then by all means beleive that. but all it shows me is that people voice their opinions, and theyre currently doing it in a R&S section of a MUCH GREATER WEBSITE.
you see things in black and white. thats obvious. maybe you should take of your blinders and think a bit more.
good and evil, black and white...grow up!
