I know that back in the day it used to be fatal but I was also told that with modern health advances, people with lupus live normal, long, healthy lives. Is this true?

First you need to be diagnosed, otherwise you can end up dying from serious symptoms and only then do they realize you have Lupus. Yes it can be treated and so you can have a normal life. Moreover by the time you are 65 they state it will have burnt itself out.

many people with Lupus live completely normal lives. I have had severe SLE for 4 years now. Everytime I get close to remission I always have a set back. I still do everything that anyone else does and by looking at me you would never know that I am sick. I think that alot of it has to do with your doctor. I have been to several that I did not like and I finally found one that takes the time to listen to every little symptom and tries to help.Antoher is attitude, no matter how bad I feel I make sure that I get out of bed everyday and go on with my life. I have failed nearly every treatment for Lupus and am now on rituxamab.
