I am very bothered by a comment my pastor said yesterday during his sermon. I go to an Assembly of God church, and his sermon was about righteousness. Toward the end of the sermon, he told the congregation that many Christians believe that they are warriors for God, but we are mistaken, because we are children of God, not warriors.
I was always taught that Christians are warriors for the cause. I don't understand what point my pastor is trying to make. Can you help?

The best place to find out if your pastor, or anyone who is claiming to be preaching the Word of God is to go to the Bible. It is the litmus test that we must use to check out what we hear preached and teached. If it doesn't pass that test we need to address that person on the subject. Go to the source, the Bible, and pray. The Holy Spirit will help guide you to an understanding of the Truth. God Bless You

After thought: I don't know if you do this or not, but try to make it a habit to jot down the scripture in the Holy Bible that he or anyone for that matter bases their comments or teaching. Go home, review your notes. look up the scriptures and pray. If your are still uneasy about what you heard, the Holy Spirit is telling you to pray and look deeper. Talk to your pastor, after you have researched and consulted with God in prayer and possibly someone you know who is spiritually sound and full of God's Wisdom. If someone isn't preaching or teaching what Christ taught when He came to earth to die for our sins and if they are not in sync with what the Holy Bible, God's Living Word says, that should raise a major red flag. It isn't enough though to confront that person and speak with them about it, we must also try to point out through scripture where they are not Biblically correct. Know one is perfect, even the most astute student's of the Bible can make mistakes and need to be guided to the truth that has possibly, mistakenly slipped passed them. We make up The Church Body, not a building or one person and together the Holy Spirit guides us and corrects us.

sounds like you want some fairly sturdy Christian friends and a faith study to attend on a popular foundation the position you get to draw close the individuals contained in the gang and also you get to study more beneficial about the Scriptures. also sounds like you would prefer to work out a record about some anti-depressants... one difficulty you want to draw close and believe is that no individual is basically too undesirable for God to redeem! study the gospels. Who did Jesus %. to adhere to Him? were they people of intense status? NO! One turned right into a hated tax collector. look on the Apostle Paul! He turned right into a assassin in all respects and look at how the Lord replaced his life. we ought to chooses who to allow administration our lives. when we count number upon self, we cut back to rubble vast time. when we count number upon God, he's in administration. Being a Christian does no longer advise you've a life with out difficulty or heart discomfort...yet we've wish that many don't and that is foundin John 3: 16 and all thruout the NT. yet another difficulty ya would opt to do is serve the Lord. community missions are a sturdy position to commence. locate some Christian friends and ask God as an instance ya what you may do to assist those in choose. Get Your concepts on the Lord and on others and serve and also you're stunned that YOUR excitement will go back. AND if those concepts of suicide proceed...pass to the emergency room and do not wait. God loves ya and has a sturdy plan for you in case you allow Him..if ya position self assurance in Him. Take care!!!!

You need to write up Ephesians 6 and give it to your Pastor.

The Holy Spirit would alert me to this also. You being bothered is just the Holy Spirit letting you know he is wrong about this.

Obviously he is mistaken. Does he believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, being pentecostal? I think he might be talking about physical warriors. But if your Pastor was truly born of God, then he would spiritually discern about spiritual warfare.

I don't think your Pastor is truly born of God yet, but in a pre-salvation state.

An example would be Teg Haggard. Some people think they are Christians, but really haven't truly trusted God in their heart and confessed to God, Jesus Christ their Lord & Savior, nor believed in their heart the atonement & resurrection.

Maybe your pastor was speaking about Christians as spiritual warriors. The Bible states that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but spiritual wickedness. He may have been speaking of "Prayer warriors" or those who seek God's face through active Word application. Doesn't the Bible speak of the Word of God as the sword?

MAybe this ?

Just because a person says ‘I am a Christian’ does not mean he is one—just as a man who claims to be a mechanic may not be a mechanic.

“The Bible even warns Christians against people who pose as Christians . . . No Christian can war against another Christian—it would be like a man fighting himself.

“True Christians are brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. . . . They would never, never intentionally hurt one another.”

So we need to apply Jesus’ rule and look at the fruits produced by the churches. But what fruits? The Bible points to one in particular, saying: “The children of God and the children of the Devil are evident by this fact: Everyone who does not carry on righteousness does not originate with God, neither does he who does not love his brother. For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should have love for one another; not like Cain, who originated with the wicked one and slaughtered his brother.”—1 John 3:10-12.

Rather than encourage love for one’s brother, the churches have supported and even promoted the killing of one’s brother in war. Thus, they have become pawns of Satan the Devil just as surely as were the religions of the ancient Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, and Romans. Jesus Christ called Satan “the ruler of this world” and said regarding His true followers: “They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.” (John 12:31; 17:16; 2 Corinthians 4:4) Yet, the churches have made themselves an integral part of this world.

Your pastor is mistaken. You should pray for him, for God to inspire his speech. But perhaps he didn't mean the statement the way it sounded. The bible clearly says that we are warriors for God, but maybe your pastor was making a point that you shouldn't retaliate against the ungodly through physical means. Jesus didn't retaliate against those who persecuted him (at least not physically, although he opposed them verbally when they were trying to set him up to blaspheme). We are also children of God, he is right about that. But keep in mind that the bible says when you hear a false prophet, you will know it. That is why we are to question the biblical interpretations we hear. Good for you for asking questions! I suggest you pray about it.

Well, U will have to ask him what he meant by making that statement, but in Eph.6:10-20 it says; "10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."
Then in Hebrews 4:12, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Paul again uses military language as we are in a Battle, War, as a direct participant we would then be called "Warriors" would we not??? Just ask the man for a more detailed explanation for Ur edification. If it still doesn't agree with Scripture, have him show U why Paul is wrong here. John

I would not want to ursurp his authority in your life,however the bible does teach that we are spiritual warriors...and gives the illustration of putting on the whole armor of God.

I would go to Him and ask for clarification....I am surprised that an Assembly of God pastor would make this comment.

I am from an Assembly of God Church myself and know about what your pastor meant.
he is talking about about Spirtual warfare.
and a passage in 2nd Cor 10:4
That says:
2Cr 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

2Cr 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

It is important to understand the context of what the pastor is saying in regards to "warriors"

2007-05-21 10:02:23 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 0 3

Angels are the warriors of the church! He is right.
We only fight the fight of faith and the only battleground to do that is our carnal mind! The devil is defeated and all the ranks of hell who come under his authority. The only fight I know we must consistently fight is the fight of faith.., which is the war between the mental realm and the spiritual realm where the enemy of our soul tries to constantly convince us that he has equal power with God..., when in fact, he is only a defeated fallen angel.
Praises to our Lord Jesus Christ. our champion. Our only battle is to keep our mind from usurping authority over our spirit where we have the mind of Christ when we have the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Hope I got this across correctly, it can get confusing.
When the Bible says we are the children of God and that Jesus, our advocate, took away all the devil's authority and now all his artillary is in His ability to deceive, steal and destroy the truth and confuse our mind, that's all true, so don't let it happen! Ask God to help you and tell the devil to "GO!",in the name of Jesus.
