Okay, firstly, some people, including myself, have a problem with spelling. Live with it!
Believe it or not, we're not doing it out of spite or anything.
Secondly, this is not just a British site. This, like any other website, is a global site. There are people logged on here from lots of countries, from America to Germany to Poland. I myself am Irish. So keep that in mind when posting something on the World Wide Web.

Okay, now I understand. There are people on R&S and some of the other boards that do not know that manners are more important than spelling and good grammar. I know that in Britain you spell things differently and you have some different rules of grammar.
Such as in the U. S. we think of words like nation, country, city, state etc as single entities even though they comprise many people and we use the verbs is, was etc. In Britain since they comprise many people they think of them as plural entities and they will use the verbs are, were, etc.
However, I am wondering these people who see misspelled words etc and come back with an answers like,"learn to spell." would do the same thing if they were dealing with that person face to face. You see people on here are anonymous and they forget about their manners
Also, I would hope their religious beliefs teaches them charity toward people with handicaps, visual, learning etc. But apparently for some, it doesn't..

I'm seeing your question on answers.yahoo.com in the States. And yes, we Yanks have differences in spelling, pronunciation, and usage -- as do Canadians, Australians, etc.; the "more correct" version is whichever will not distract your audience.
I do find myself using single quotation marks sometimes, just because it's easier to use the unshifted key. And I tend to use logical quoting: I call a spade a 'spade'.

Seriously, take a chill pill.
At least the yank way of spelling is correct for them, some of the spelling on here doesn't exists in a dictionary any where!!
Take peace in the knowledge that in comparrison to the UK the U.S is still in nappies!! You wouldn't expect a 2yr old to spell correctly would you??
:)

Excuse me, but this is Yahoo ANSWERS! Not a time to vent! If you spell something one way and people in America spell it a different way, then it doesn't really matter-does it? You shouldn't stress yourself over such petty things!

Sometimes they post questions from YA/UK in the USA site.
The word is spelled differently in the US from UK. No big deal.

Gee honey, you are one angry little girl. I think you need some help, and I mean that. If you don't work this out, you're going to have a very unhappy life. Don't they have therapists in Scotland?
