I had it done and i would not recommend it!! I was hosting a Christmas party and i wanted to look perfect, and i wanted to look tan, so just in case things didn't turn as i wanted, i went a week ahead to have time to repair the damage. Oh boy, was happy!!! The color was not that bad, but it was a little bit orange, but when at home i looked at my feet it was not a pretty scene, they were dark orange, i think that the spray dripped to my feet, so i exfoliated them for a week and at the end it wasn't that bad. So this is my experience with spray tanning, it lasted for about 10 days, they sell you creams to keep it longer and if you would like to keep it you will have to go every 2 weeks or so. If you have time, try to get tanned the old fashion way, put on some sun protection and go out to garden for 15 minutes every other day until you get the color you feel comfortable with, always with protection and do not use baby oil, you will fry!
Tanning beds don't give you the tan as fast as the spray or natural sun, and a good place will only allow you to go for about 3 times a week 15 minutes at a time at the beginning, and it takes about 20 sessions to look tan.
So good luck in you decision.
By the way, i did not got spots on my face, only my feet.

Yes, get a spray tan from a pro. You can choose to have a light rather than a dark tan. It only takes 10-15 minutes, see the vid at http://www.tropical-sunrise.com/spray-tan-video.html by the people I use.
Very few people are likely to react to it as the ingredient that causes the tan is DHA, which is derived from sugar cane.
Orange was more of a risk a few years back and is only likely to happen now if you go overboard and pile on way to much tan. I get it done regularly and wouldn't be without it.

I got a spray tan once and i stood in the wrong position and I had streaks everywhere!!! it was so embarrasing. I suggest using Neutrogena summer glow daily mosturizer. It will not turn you orange and because it is gradual you can control how tan you get. Use it daily and you will look tan and healthy. It also leaves your skin feeling really soft. Apply it evenly all over your body and then rinse your hands off without using soap. This way you won't get discolored palms. If you use it in the morning then by the end of the day you will notice a difference in the color of your skin! YOu will have a healthy looking natural tan, oh and this stuff is SPF20 so if you go out into the sun you won't burn! yay! haha Hope that helps.

Good places (unfortunately these tend to charge more, prepare to pay £30-£40) will give you a choice of colours, so as your pale you could go for a light tan.
Yes, spray tans can go horribly wrong.
But done well, they're good for special occasions. I wouldn't recommend getting one weekly, it will build up too much colour and your skin will be swamped with chemicals, which are obviously bad for you, these get absorbed into the skin.
Fake Bake is a favourite of celebrities and is organic and therefore healthier, but costs £40. however it is applied by a therapist and you get exfoliated, moisturized etc.
Bit of a pickle lol. I just learnt to accept my pale skin. All the girls at my prom are getting spray tans but i'm going for a 40's look, with pin curled hair, and blushed cheeks and false eylashes (not obvious ones).
Hope this helped and good luck, email me from my profile if you have any questions :)
Please don't resort to sunbeds though!

If your getting a spray tan at a salon, sometimes it can make you too much darker than you wanted, because sometimes there is no control on the amount of color. I would suggest the self tanning that helps you get darker gradually that way you can stop when you think the color is getting too orange looking.
