All energy that sustains life comes from the sun, so why do we think people who worshipped the sun as pagans and therefore idiotic. All life begins with the sun. What makes more sense worshipping the sun which has looked upon every ancestor, every day in history, and still every person on the planet.

Egyptian I thought your answer was interesting, never mind the person who said Sunday is named sunday because of the metaphor between god and the sun, that person has no clue how much pagan religions influenced Christianity. She is a typical yahoo answerer...dumb.

I love this question. Most religious people do worship the sun without even realizing it.

1. Their day of worship is Sun-day. Why?

2. They say that god is the light of the heaven and the earth. This is not the moon because the moon has no light of its own. It's a rock that reflects the light from the sun.

3. God is called a sun in Ps. 84:11.

4. They say god is the source of all life but like u pointed out, this is the roll of the sun (a sustainer, nourisher, provider and and other attribute along these lines) and we can't live without it.

5. All their prayers end with AMEN, which came from none other than AMEN or AMUN RA- the sun god of ancient Egypt. And he is mention in Rev. 3:14 as the true and faithful witness of the beginning of God (the biblical god).

All these are no coincidences and this ball of enery has healing in its rays according to Malachi 4:2. So they are blinded by religious light but they are living because of the SUN's light.

Peace.

Both the living entity and the demigods are subordinate to the will of the Supreme Personality of Godhead; therefore the living entity cannot worship the demigod by his own desire, nor can the demigod bestow any benediction without the supreme will. As it is said, not a blade of grass moves without the will of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Generally, persons who are distressed in the material world go to the demigods, as they are advised in the Vedic literature. A person wanting some particular thing may worship such and such a demigod. For example, a diseased person is recommended to worship the sun-god; a person wanting education may worship the goddess of learning, Sarasvaté; and a person wanting a beautiful wife may worship the goddess Umä, the wife of Lord Çiva. In this way there are recommendations in the sästras (Vedic scriptures) for different modes of worship of different demigods. And because a particular living entity wants to enjoy a particular material facility, the Lord inspires him with a strong desire to achieve that benediction from that particular demigod, and so he successfully receives the benediction. The particular mode of the devotional attitude of the living entity toward a particular type of demigod is also arranged by the Supreme Lord. The demigods cannot infuse the living entities with such an affinity, but because He is the Supreme Lord, or the Supersoul who is present in the hearts of all living entities, Kåñëa gives impetus to man to worship certain demigods. The demigods are actually different parts of the universal body of the Supreme Lord; therefore they have no independence. In the Vedic literature it is stated: "The Supreme Personality of Godhead as Supersoul is also present within the heart of the demigod; therefore He arranges through the demigod to fulfill the desire of the living entity. But both the demigod and the living entity are dependent on the supreme will. They are not independent.

Dear Ayisha,

Some people do worship the sun. However, it is just a star!. God made every star in the entire universe by just speaking! Even though the sun does heat our planet and provide warmth, it cannot create life. Only God can create life. Please do not let the evolutionists deceive you--scientists can manipulate life, but they cannot create it. One can give some fruit flies or bacteria a carcinogen or mutagen to cause a mutation in that organism, but that change does not make it a new organism or species. Most changes in the genetic constitution of an organism are detrimental to the organism and make it less viable.

Egiptian - I guess you didn't pay much attention to what you were reading. The bible refering to God as a sun was a metaphor. Also, the word "Amen" comes from Hebrew, meaning "let it be so." Get your facts straight.

And perhaps Sunday was named what it was in the English language AFTER Christians reserved it as their day of worship because of the metaphor about God being like the sun that he created.

Worship is an old fashioned word which is derived from the middle English: worthship. Attributing worth in verbal form or some other form of service ought only be done if the object is able to receive it and reciprocate; the sun, being inanimate, can not do so. Additionally, God forbids worship of anyone but Him.

I have wondered that as well. If I had to pick a "God" it would be the sun. Let's face it -- we can't live without it, it makes people happy, and what is more beautiful than a sunset? Only good can come from the sun unless, of course, you get skin cancer, but that would be the individual's fault - not the sun's fault.

What about the guy who made the sun? Isn't he actually the most powerful? All it is is hot burning gasses. He put in place to make this planet sustain life. I mean what really can the sun do for you? Isn't it really god who makes things happen.

The sun does produce light which is necessary for life on earth, but it's just a ball of gas. Eventually, in another million years it's going to die out anyway.

Most people today have lost their respect for the sun and therefore see no reason to worship or even acknowledge it.
