Which food is best for them? I heard that whiskas isn't too good for them.
I'm in the UK and was looking for kitten food that I could buy in a normal supermarket.

To anyone who mentioned Iams, I suggest you check http://www.iamscruelty.com/
I'll never feed my cat that.
They've got a list of food that don't test on animals on that website, but most of them are impossible to get here in the uk.

A can of tuna is just fine, tuna in water.

I have never heard of that brand. As far as cats go, I would go with a food that has no grains, no meat by-products and "Animal Fat", you don't know what kind of animal it is. It could be a Racoon, a roadkilled deer. Cats can't digest Corn. Same with Dogs. Cats need higher protein. More meat not grains. They don't eat a corn field or a wheat field in the wild, why put the grains in there. I recomend Wellness kitten, Solid Gold and when the kitten is an adult, stick with Wellness, Wysong, California Natural and Instinct. You pay alittle bit more but less at the vets and you have a healthier kitten in the long run. Good luck!

Hi!

I feed my kitten Iams or Purina One. Generally any cat food with the word 'complete' means that it is high quality - Whiskas and Go Cat are seen as the cat food equivalent to human junk food.

I'm not sure about Iams testing on animals, if this concerns you, I would do some research into it!

I have to say this - my childhood cats were fed Go Cat and other similar brands, and we thought they were happy and healthy. That was until I grew up and got a kitten of my own. We fed him Iams for the first 6 months of his life and he has the shiniest coat I've ever seen. You truly can tell the difference.

Also stick to dry food and if you want to give your kitten a 'treat' now and again, a little tuna or scrambled egg will be fine. When our kitten was 6 months old, we started giving him a pouch of Iams wet food a few times a week just to add some variety to his diet. But he mostly has dry food as this is much better for his teeth :-)

The beauty of Iams is that when your kitten grows into an adult, you will be able to choose the appropriate formula for him - Adult, Indoor, Light (i.e. diet), etc.

Speak to your vet when you take your kitten. He will likely give you a free sample of Science Plan food which is also very good - the only problem is that you usually have to buy it through the actual vet :-)

xx Emmie

I feed my 7 month old, Felix kitten food, either the pouch or foil trays, I also has a handful each day of kitten biscuits (dry). However, he does not like Whiskas, a couple of times when I've run out of Felix and the shop hasn't any in, I've bought Whiskas kitten food, however, he turns his nose up at this. Saying that, the vet had told me that Whiskas food is quite dry and Felix, being a bit more moist, would be better for him.

I feed my kitten whiskas kitten pouches and she also has kitten milk as she doesn't seem to b a fan of water at the moment. If your taking her away from her mother then make sure you give her what she's used to and you can always introduce something else gradually if you don't think the food she's already on is good for her.

Hi,I've got a 13 week old kitten.I've been feeding him on whiskas kitten dry food,he loves It.I wanted him to eat wet food as well though. It took me weeks to find a type that he liked.I tried all kinds of brands good quality brands and the only one that he eventually liked was tescos own brand. He loves the cutlets of sardine & mackerel. There's a minimum of 50% sardine in each tin,It's got big chunks of sardine in. They do other flavoures too. Try putting a bit of food in your hand and see If he will take It.At the end of the day a kitten/ cat will only eat what they like.Good luck.

Hi there
The best quality pet food recommended by vets my own included is royal canin it is a dry cat food and comes in so many different types indoor, outdoor, special needs, longhair, etc they even have some breed type speciality such as for Persians and Maine coons, and of course a few different ones for kittens the choice is endless. I feed my cats on royal canin
beauty and fit 37 they love it and have the most beautiful coats it also is great for their teeth and really does help reduce odour in the litter tray I also give them a pouch of whiskas or felix in jelly just because they love it. I buy mine on line from zooplus.ie they also operate from the uk and they deliver free to your door probably on zooplus.uk but they are great you can buy your cat litter brushes and bowls etc have a look.

Iams is the best cat food on earth. Although Iams cat food does contain by-products (ground, rendered and cleaned parts of necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines), at least they are not the primary ingredient. Iams Chicken formula lists the primary ingredients as chicken, chicken broth and chicken liver, followed by chicken by-products.

Many pet nutritionists prefer cat food like Innova or Natural Balance, which contain no by-products at all. However, Iams is better than many other brands in that by-products are not primary ingredients, as they are in cat foods from 9 Lives, Friskies and Whiskas.

Don't buy anything with corn listed as the 1st ingredient (listed on the bag). My vet told me to feed my 5 week old kitten Eukanuba Kitten. She is very underweight (got her from the pound) and the vet said this was the very best there is. The Iams comment is right on. Don't buy it! Good luck with your kitten!

Any would be good as long as it is a specific Kitten formula instead of just cats in general. Most Kitten formulas have the nutrients that a growing kitten needs in their diet.
