MY GOD WHAT HORRIBLE PEOPLE WHO HAVE LEFT MESSAGES FOR YOU.

YES ITS LIKELY THAT HE WILL SEE BATTLE. PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THAT BUT EVER SINCE DESERT STORM BACK IN 90 THE MILITARY HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE IN SOME SHAPE OR FORM. AND TAKE THE PHILIPPINES FOR INSTANCE. WE STARTED THERE IN LIKE 1950 SOMETHING AND JUST LEFT A COUPLE YEARS AGO. AND THE GUARD RIGHT NOW IS BEING HEAVILY RELIED UPON. MAINLY CAUSE WITH THE ARMY AND MARINES THESE GUYS ARE SEEING MULTIPLE TOURS IN IRAQ AND ADDING GUARDSMEN TO THEM IS AN ATTEMPT TO KEEPING THEM FROM DOING LONGER TOURS...

I KNOW THIS ISN'T WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR.. BUT ON THE SAME STANDPOINT THAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE MILITARY. SO HE KNEW THIS WHEN HE ENLISTED.

Probably but keep your hopes up. And just skip over at least half of the answers that you get from this thing. Some of these people need to keep their mouths shut!!! Just remember to try not to listen to any war news from most of the news stations. They never tell you about all of the good things that we are doing ove there. My husband recently left for Afghanistan and we have found out that we are doing some great things there. Our troops have helped establish more hospitals over there because, as we found out, 50% of women die during their pregnancies, 50% of the children who are born die with in the first year and 50% of the children who do make it past that first year die before their 5th birthday. So if your boyfriend is deployed keep praying and remember all the good things that our troops are doing over there. My prayers will be with both of you!

It's pretty much a guarentee but don't sweat it. I have been over twice while in the Marines and going back in Feb w/ my Guard unit good luck! Btw Mild Irritant the military banned the internet usage of suh sights because we were all on them during our downtime and it slowed up the computers and posed a safety hazard. and Rennie the active Army is doing 18months the National Guard is still doing 12 months

It's impossible to say. The Democrats are trying to get withdrawl from Iraq but as the mid term elections and next Presidential election aren't until 2008 it's unlikely the war will be stopped. Bush seems determined to remain in Iraq and no-one has the power to stop him (at least not within the next 18 months). British troops however could be out soon as the incoming Prime MInister Gordon Brown wishes to withdraw and this could be a factor as British support has always helped. It's a close one to call though so I'd suggest crossing that bridge if you come to it.

He very well could be going over to Iraq and could see battle.

my husband's been over once and he's going for a second time in July.

I also have a very close friend who is a Marine and he was stationed in Fallujah (triangle of death).

Both my husband and my friend along with others that have been over there will tell you of course it is dangerous and they see battle but it's not as bad as you think it is.

Remember tv channels make money through ratings... you get good ratings if you show sensationalized 'news'.

You will get through this and so will he. There are spouse's clubs and they are great in terms of support.

Here's a great website to check out:

He's a journalist who's been embedded with Marines and he tells it straightforward. He's got a documentary on it as well.

I'm sorry to say, but yes, he will probably see battle. And yes, they have extended the tours to Iraq/Afghanistan from a minimun of 12 months to a minimum of 18 months. Which means he could be there anywhere from 18 - 24 months. I'm an Army wife, and my husband has been to Iraq twice, and I am dreading the next tour. I know it's coming, and probably at the end of this year. The best thing you can do is not listen to all the negative people about this. Most of them don't know what they are talking about and need to keep their mouths shut. Talk to people who have been through the experience and see what they have to say. It's not fun whatsoever, but it's something we have to get through because we love our soldiers. I wish him the best of luck and my prayers are with the both of you.

Yes, I am sure he will go. My husband's unit is over there now and once they get back, they should have a year off, and then the unit will most likely be sent back again.

He will probably be sent before the 18 months too.

I'm going to disagree with everyone else and say NOT LIKELY. As with Viet Nam, I can see the United States leaving Iraq with it's tail between it's legs. The current political attitude is to let the terrorists have their way and bring home our boys to lick their wounds. At least until we're bombed again.

I SUPPORT OUR SOLDIERS!
It's our politicians I'm embarrassed about!

It depends on what branch he's in and what job he does.
If he's army then he's guranteed to go sorry :( because the army operates differently than the other branches.
