find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Genetics plays a major role in your metabolism, but so does diet, and you didn't mention diet in your question, which makes me think that you don't really watch what you eat, and in that case, that is why you are having trouble... Stay away from the fats and sugars, and down the protein... Increase the cardio, basketball is a great way to burn extra calories... Also increase the weight, the more weight you're pushing, the more calories you're burning, and the more likely you are to rev your metabolism in the future.

A few weeks and your giving up? Did you get good at basketball in a few weeks or did it take you a few months? The same applies to weights. Lifting will definetally increase your metabolism, so keep it up. BUT....muscle weighs more then fat. Now the real question is are you trying to lose weight or are you trying to lose fat. In my opponion if you weigh 220 but its in muscle then who cares

Lifting weights doesnt help you lose weight. It builds muscle yes, but to really speed up your metabolism you should run and jog. You have to eat good food still too. thats really it

Please don't listen to the 2 above - they hang around here all day - answering questions with the same thing! The website doesn't even exist!
I'd up the protein and eat little or no carbs, and carry on with the weights and cardio.
