I've read it on a book a friend bought in the USA once but I could not catch its meaning.

What is to be the "it", in the case?

I'm not able to draw a situation here, to give as a text context... (cacophony!).

Anyway, tnx you out there!

it means he has a high opinion of himself, a big ego. 'it' suggests they are the the best, the foremost, the centre of everything. lol It's one of those phrases that you say without thinking whether it makes sense or not!

The definition of 'it' in the context you gave means 'grand, important, super, great' Therefore if a man thinks he is 'it' then he mistakenly has an overinflated opinion of himself. In other words he thinks he is great although others do not think this of him.

This is a colloquial phrase meaning 'he thinks he is the best'. This is very similar to the phrase 'he thinks he is all that', the meanings of 'it' and 'that' are the same here.

Hope that helped.
