Jesus is a prophet of god, he isnt god, he isnt son of god, he is only a prophet. Good question, why have people put words into the mouth of someone who never uttered these words? They're all wrong and its shameful what christians have done to his name.

He is not A god. He is THE God.
Since Jesus IS God, then He would be identified as being eternal, that is with no beginning and no end. Isaiah describes this attribute as "the beginning and the end" or "the first and the last". This describes the eternal attribute of YHWH...
Isa 41:4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I YHWH, the first, and with the last; I am he.
Isa 48:12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
When prophesying the coming Redeemer, Isaiah notes that He will be God come in the flesh...
Isa 44:6 Thus saith the YHWH the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the YHWH of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
This can now be confirmed with the resurrected Jesus in Revelation. The first confirming that Jesus is "The Almighty"...
Re 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Then as the One who died and now lives...
Re 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last:
Re 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
Re 2:8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
And then bookends with the confirmation at the end...
Re 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Re 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
There is far more evidence, but this is a good start as to why we believe Jesus is God.
Oh, just one more...
John 10
"I and My Father are one."
Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?”
The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."
The whole reason the Jews sought to kill Jesus was because He, being a man, made Himself out to be God. If He was NOT God, then He was rightly put to death and was then a sacrifice WITH sin and blemish. Since He IS God, then His death was that of the Lamb WITHOUT spot or blemish.

Try explaining why He made Himself equal with God and brought dead people back to life and regenerated eyes that were dead from birth, both of which Mohammad did not (could not) do. He did what only God could do (regenerate) and he said He is the Son of God. That is enough for me. besides, Jesus Christ said things that made more sense. The rest of human religions have only human messengers speaking out of their own limited experience that I can easily debunk using the clear and logical knowledge that Jesus gave us.
Jesus Christ called Himself both "Son of Man" (reference to Daniel 9) and Son(Word) of God
The clincher for me is that his disciples can still work the works of God simply by invoking His most Holy name, above all other Names. They do the same things He did (debunks Islam that he was only a man) and they don't use their own names(which debunks Hinduism's strange illogical argument that we are all "gods")

Woah! Excuse me but Jesus was already God before we were ever made.
You really need to be careful what you assert about the God of the Universe, who formed creation with a word(John 1). I would cringe to say such a thing if He were not Love itself.
This link has a lot of historical resources to corroborate the Divinity of Christ:
http://www.catholic.com/library/Divinity_of_Chirst.asp
Oh and by the way, there was no "Catholic church" when this question was settled once and for all about 1700 years ago, there was only Christianity. I would say that there are some reckless people that have been born in the current age that are trying to bring up a very foolish old heresy.
And coincidentally they always use the least accurate translations of scripture, using only one text(the Vulgate which dates from about the 7th century).
translations like the NIV have used the oldest scrolls of the bible that have ever been discovered. So any changes in the text have been in more recent texts not the oldest ones. Also these more accurate Bible translations use all the available texts to make sure they are getting the most accurate reading .

because people seem to forget that men wrote the Bible and it has been translated many times over. in the translation and through time, i'm sure many things have been changed and we wouldn't know any different. people are too literal when they read it and that's why you have religious fanatics. Jesus was a prophet/messenger just like John the Baptist or Mohammed, etc. saying that Jesus is God or a god is like attributing miracles to regular people and calling them saints.

Jesus IS God not a god. In His earthly incarnation He was 100% God and 100% God. Check out Hypostatic Union.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Because there are a few scriptures they misinterpret. I had a preacher e mail me back, after I asked for scriptures that actually say Jesus is God. He never sent them. There aren't any. Well, except in newer bibles where they are changing the words. To juju the bible says Isaiah, an he will be called mighty God. But Jehovah is God Almighty. Big, big difference. To be called God and be God are two different things. Also a man and a wife are one. Jesus said let my people be one. P.S. Just because God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit are mentioned in the same verse is a really bad argument for them all being God. P.S.S. Calling someone a moron is so Christ-like. Also, Jesus died for us because (in his own words) Your will not my own. (He was talking to his Father, ya' know God. And God allowed prophets to perform miracles too. I could go on.

Grace, Christians believe that Jesus was God made flesh because the bible teaches that. And He is not "a" God. He is "the only" God.
