No, I don`t think the two are related. Bipolar is a chemical imbalance that can be easily treated with meds. I don`t believe your head injury had anything to do with your diagnosis.

What kind of brain damage did you recieve from the accident?

You might actually be having seizures or some other type of neurological problem; some people with seizure disorders have mood and personality changes that resemble mental illness.

Do you agree with the bipolar diagnosis? Remember that a lot of doctors will be quick to misdiagnose someone in an effort to make money. If there's even a little doubt about the diagnosis, get a second one from a different doctor just to be sure.

Some believe that brain damage can cause physiological problems. Head trauma, seizures, drug use. Bi-Polar gets more complex every day. Its almost all encompassing. Since it goes to both poles :) What are your symptoms. 10 years later. Are they just now showing? When did they start? Did they start within 3 months of the accident? What were your injuries. Other than head trauma. What type of bi-polar do you believe you are? Have you have ever taken drugs recreational or from a doctor?
Judgment: Yes, head trauma can lead to depression and other mental illness.

No. If you are bipolar, then you probably already were. Your emotional responses may just be a bit more extreme now because of some of the trauma from the accident. Either that, or some quack doctor misdiagnosed you. Sounds hinky to me. Get some tests done and get a second opinion.

you could have been bipolar since birth, but for a lot of people it takes an event or a great deal of stress to bring in to the forefront, if you to have lived a 'peaceful' life, you might have never come down with bp just like a person with a bad heart might not get a heart attack under the right conditions
