"Gas Out" days don't work. To make the gas industry sit up an listen, we'd have to cut back on driving majorly....like, buy bikes to ride almost everywhere, take public transportation, car pool if you can't take a bike, do all your errands on 1 day and don't drive for pleasure. Use less gas. Gas consumption dropped by 2% last month. If we want to get the gas industries' attention, gas consumtion will have to drop by 5-10%. That will have a huge impact on the record profits they're bringing home.

According to an older gas station owner it would take 3 days to drop the oil companies to there knees.

And to those that say it won't work, ask your grandparents about the 3 days that they didn't buy bread, ask them what happened to the prices.

How devastated would you be if your next three paychecks never came. Considering that most Americans have no savings, you would probably be homeless. The loss of revenue for 3 days, or more WILL Hurt the Oil companies.

Its basic economics that even the dumbest of people can understand.

What did GM do after 9/11 when they were not selling cars? Do you remember what they had to do to stay in business, to bring customers back? They were brought to their knees and went to 0% interest in a very short period of time.

Besides w t f do you have to lose by trying. So on the next boycot fill up a couple days before (ohh big deal) and simply avoid the gas pump the day before, the day of and the day after the next boycot. Thats it.

As a consumer you have forgotten how much power you really have. Your dollar is the life blood of any business. Your money is what they live off of. With Big Oil making record profit, its time to remind the oil companies that they need our money to survive. All it will take from you is 3 days of not filling up, can you be the one to make a big difference?

Because it won't actually affect anything. People actually have to reduce consumption for any kind of boycott of gasoline to work. This means doing more than a one-day boycott. A one-day boycott won't reach the big oil companies that set the price of gas, since all it means is that everyone will simply buy their gas on a different day, but the same amount of gas will be purchased.

Because one day won't have any effect.

Everyone will gas up either the day before or the day after, so the oil companies won't feel it in the slightest.

If everyone could give up using their cars for a month, that might cut into their bottom line a little bit, but one day is nothing.

It's totally pointless. You still need to buy the gas sooner or later. Check out this link... It covers half a dozen reasons why "gas outs" aren't realistic.

Want to do your part to effect the gas war? Buy a "greener" vehicle. Doesn't have to be a hybrid, just one that gets better mileage. And try to cut down on the mileage you drive. (You don't even have to bash SUVs... I just got a 4 cycl. Rav-4 and it gets better gas mileage than some sedans!) Small steps make a big difference.

It wouldn't make a difference.

Consumption has to change for a period of time for it to make a bit of difference. Downgrade from SUV's and trucks to compacts or hybrids.

Having a "gas out" day is an empty threat to the gas companies. They will get a good chuckle out of it, but the only thing we prove is that we can go a day without BUYING fuel; not that we can go a day without USING it.

Why don't we instead have "less gas" month. If everyone made changes in their behavior and made the commitment to buy less gas in all of June, we would show that people are willing to actually change habits; not just alter their schedule a day. That might actually make a difference.

but then everyone will top off the day before so they will just have a spike in sales on that day. In theory it would be nice but there is a reason why people have cars...and the cars that most of us have run on gas.
