it's ok to be pushy and abusive to whom they consider non-christians. I thought the whole idea of being christian meant that you were loving and accepting of all men. That's what it says in the bible. How else are you going to get into Heaven?

or insist that we're all sinners and going to hell
or whine that they're not allowed to force us to practice their beliefs

Christians are sold into an ideology that, like most other such ideologies, preaches the belief that their way is the only true way and that if they don't spread this message to others, they are failing in their duty.

Is this the word of God? Or is this the word of MEN who were smart enough to understand that if the ideology doesn't spread and grow, it will stagnate and die?

Is it really feasible to believe:

1) That the belief in Christ is the only path to heaven.
2) That God loves us one and all.
3) That the refusal to accept Christ, equates to eternity in hell.

Not so much. Then factor in that something like half of the world's population isn't Christian, which would mean that all those people are doomed to hell by default.

The problem is that once an idea becomes a belief... it is a personal institution. It's the lense that life is viewed through. Whether right or wrong, logical or illogical, a person will fight to protect the perceptions they've built their life around.

Your refusal to believe also... poses the idea that they might be wrong in their beliefs. And quite often that's going to make a person aggressive.

Wow, do you have things upside down.
God loves when its appropriate to love.
God hates when its appropriate to hate.

If you know someone who is pushy and abusive then thats the way that person is, and has nothing to do whatsoever with Christianity. That said, Christians are not the doormats of this world. We have no mandate from Heaven to be that. I think what you call "pushy" may be those who feel a need to spread the Word. Our mandate from God is to plant a seed. That means a seed of truth, that we hope will grow. However, we have absolutely no role in making a seed grow, nor do we have any power to make a seed grow. Thats Gods work, not ours. If that seed doesn't take route, our direction is to wipe the dust off our shoes and keep on going. Nothing pushy. Every soul on Earth has to sail his or her own ship. Where you sail it is up to you. If you sail it off a cliff, or if someone comes and robs your ship, thats on you, if
you sailed it into hostile waters.
I'm not hostile towards any people: I always say "bon voyage, Captain". Have a great trip.
Do I wish you would listen? Of course, but
my wishes and $5 bucks will get you a coffee just about anywhere ya wanna go.

Why do people who are not Christians think that just because they don't believe in God..... ?

it's okay to get after people who do believe and want to share (not force) the joy they feel with others? I thought the whole idea of loving your neighbor meant that you would want to give them the opportunity to taste of the sweetness that you have experienced in your own life. That's what it says in the Bible. How else are you going to get into Heaven?

We try to love the sinner, yet hate the sin. Sometimes Christians get overly zealous about the later and forget the former in their zeal. Accepting people doesn't mean we accept their beliefs and I think some try to make that point so clear, they forget their manners. I might occasionally be guilty of that myself, but I hope not. We just know without any doubts who God is and that His Word is true. We can get very passionate about that. Next time that happens to you just remind them you are not their enemy and wish they would treat you with the same respect. God bless you and thanks for the post. We all need constructive criticism from time to time. God bless you.

I am Christian and I totally agree with your question. I think many people hide behind Christianity or use it as a weapon to judge and abuse other people. Many Christians use the Bible to beat others with when someone lives their life differently, like homosexuality, atheists, etc. We are not to judge and we are not to look down on others. We are supposed to strive for being God like and God loves all of his children. I do not feel that many Christians lead Christian lives and that is sad. Granted, we are all sinners and no one is perfect, but people who set out to sin or people who judge others harshly are not being Christian in their behavior. In the end, God knows what we do and what we think so there will be consequences for bad behavior.

Aren't you generalizing a bit? No Christian I know think it is OK to be pushy and abusive. But, Christians, like everyone else, are sinful. We just realize that everyone is to be accountable for their sins, and the price was already paid for them.

I believe these are called "self-righteous" even then they call themselves good or holy. But accoriding to the bible, "No man is righteous, not even one" So the Christians you are listening to cannot even get their facts straight. If you wan to learn about christianity read about some reliable christian preachers, or just go to the bible. so basically you are hearing false preachings of the bible and the best way to go from there is to find somebody that will do it right. So to call Christians self-righteous makes you look like an ignorant fool.

I don’t think I know any Christians that think that way. This doesn’t sound at all Christian.

If you are getting this impression based on answers here in the R&S section please realize that some antiChristians pretend to be Christian in an attempt to perpetuate their anti Christian viewpoint. These people are not that difficult to spot.

I don't think that. And I certainly see more pushy and abusive Athiests than I do in Christians.

I'm a Christian. I believe in God. I don't think it's ok to be pushy and abusive.

To anyone.

Not even those who are cruel to me.
