My knees have been bothering me off and on for years. I'm 29 and physically active (no running though) and otherwise healthy. My knees ache from time to time, not always together, usually just one then the other.

Sometimes it's so bad I can't sleep. I take ibuprofen, use aspercreme, etc. but it only lasts a little while.

I went to the doctor once and they told me the undersides of my kneecaps were rough, and that with exercise it would improve, but it hasn't.

So . . .any ideas?

My deductible is $1,000 so I am trying to avoid going to a doctor again.

I think you should see a physical therapy specialist. They would be able to help you find out what's causing the problem and strengthen the knees. Therefore reducing your pain problem.

you may not be doing the right exercises. a lot of the best exercises seem stupid and kinda tedious. they are, but they work. you can talk to a physical therapist about specific exercises that may be best for you. you could also try glucosamine/condrotin, available at any gnc, vitamin shoppe or drug store. enjoy!

Keep using the OTC pain relievers and go see an orthopedic surgeon....assuming you saw a general practitioner the 1st time.
