I'm in university and I have a little sis in elementary school, my mom really misses me cause she sends 14 emails to me every day. Sometimes my mom starts freaking out for no reason and she takes it out on my little sis and she's only 8. My sis gets scared and she calls me and starts screaming on the phone. I tell my mom to just bug off and deal with the fact that I'm out of the house(and to quit freaking at my sister) but she doesn't listen to me.What do I do?

Sounds like you're a smart person so you can be your mom's best advocate right now. You're right, she's freaking out because she misses you so much. Can you blame her? She pushed you out, changed tons of diapers, raised you for almost 2 decades and now you're gone. Some women just handle it better than others. I'll be finding out in a couple years what it feels like.
So my advice to you is get her some help. Talk to an agency in her area that can give her some counseling. Do you know how to contact her doctor? You can tell him what's going on. Don't say she's abusing your sister though unless you think it is or they will rip your little sister from her. Sign your sister up for the Big Sister program. She's probably missing you too. Find your mom's friends and get them involved in her daily life. What are her talents? You could get her involved in a free college course doing something she enjoys, tell her to start scrapbooking.
Basically if she gets some help, counseling at first, then gets busy she'll start to come out of it and accept that you're an adult now and need your space. I even know of one college person at UC Davis who got a dorm apartment so her sister could live with her because of a similar situation. I'm glad you care so much about your sister and I know you love your mom too. Don't make her feel like you don't want her in your life, just that you want to have your own too. She'll get it eventually, hang in there.

Your mother needs to see her doctor. She is depressed and there are many medications to help her, but she may not take this advice from you too well. Just tell her to see the doctor.
