This was part of a previous answer: "I definitely think it's important that our leaders be leaders that put God first."

Does anyone else find that as frightening as I do?

I believe in God but that's downright scary.

Some of the answers you are getting are even more frightening.

Some people really need to get out more.

The American president should put the American people first. Period.

Well, it depends on what you understood, because if a leader put God first in his personal life, there is no problem. The answer makes no specifications, so why to twist those words and force them to be scary?

There is nothing scary about that. God deserves first place in the hearts and lives of every living being. He created us and knows what is best for us. If leaders lived according to God's commandments and principles the world would be a wonderful place to live PROVIDING EVERYONE ELSE THAT ISN'T IN A POSITION OF LEADERSHIP WOULD FOLLOW THEIR TEACHINGS AND EXAMPLE.

Reality is that all mankind is born with a sin nature. Therefore
it is very rational and reasonable and logical to know beyond any doubt that the above will never happen. Man apart from a salvation experience will always be in rebellion against the commands of God. It always has been and always will be up to every individual what they do with God.

Everyone knows the rewards of obedience to Him as well as the punishment for disobedience to Him.

EDIT: Evidently there are four people at least in here who either don't want to hear truth or despise it. God doesn't change to suit any person irrespective of what they choose to believe or not believe. There is not one person living on earth
or who has ever lived on earth that will not stand before Him in
judgment. Then those who reject truth will be immediately in the know, but it will be too late to repent. I feel sorry for you!

It certainly seems more than a little misguided. Political leaders, ideally put the welfare of the people under their authority first. I suspect the quoted person feels that this is parallel with God, but it sounds like s/he wants leaders to put churches first. This is naturally problematic.

I am going to be thrown out of the atheist league, but I want to disagree sort of. If you think of God as being the basis of that person's morality and ethical code, then yes, he should put that first. In other words, his morals have to come first. If you mean by God, religious tenets, like having Bible reading in schools, then, yes, it would be scary. Confused?

Well, it would be scarier if I know what they meant by "putting God first." If they really mean "putting my idea of God first," then yes, that is very scary indeed.

Our leaders need to be people who are sensitive to the needs of the people they lead, offer wise advice and all the other things we mean when we say leadership, but let private things be private. And one's religious and spiritual beliefs should, in my opinion, be as private as you want them to be. A public official would do well to keep them private, too, so as to avoid offending those who believe differently.

No, I don't think it's scary. Whether you're a God-lover or not, you're bound to put whatever you believe first in your leadership skills, because that's who you are--your belief. I would rather have someone who knows God lead me than someone who has nothing to offer when chaos breaks out!

I think it is very frightening. When people try to legislate morality and take away other people's free agency they are then doing what God said he would not do...choose for you.

Terrifying, look what the religious coalition picked for our president last time? Bush and listen to the Republicans they want in there it is a Forbes 400 list of richest men in America I might add the most corrupt.
Who rob from the poor to give to the rich. That is the way relgion is today. Rich and powerful and greedy.
Do we want it to rule? Well how is the last 8 years working for you?

Yes, especially considering that all of the previous leaders that did so usually started mass-killing campaigns such as the Holocaust, Inquisition, Crusades, Witch-Hunts, etc.

Showing 'God's love' means bringing the non-believer before him and slaughtering them. Why do you think the above incidents took place? You don't kill people to show how much you care. You kill because you want them to die, regardless of what your holy book says.

p.s. despite claims to the contrary, the gods of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are ALL the same maniacal, child killing, slave loving, neighboring nation invading, plunder and pillage condoning, misogynistic, megalomaniac. Need proof? Ask them who god's original favorite people were... then read what he told his original favorite people to do.
