I do not know how to explain this feeling but some Christians have always filled me with this insidious feeling of something very evil and very dark behind the religion itself. Please note I am not saying this about all Christians I know some wonderful ones from all denominations.
It is mostly those responses relying on circular logic, threats about repenting and hell fire. The way they treat homosexuality and other religions (they automatically worship Satan) as well as the anti-science approach. I just find it repugnant to my senses. But it is not just that it is the whole attitude and approach to many things.
Actually reading the Bible thoroughly and studying Christian history helps to reinforce these feelings. It is like there is light in this world and pure truth somewhere but Christianity will try to destroy it should it ever surface and it lacks this same light and truth although it may have some seeds of it. Does anyone understand this "feeling".

Even the figure of Jesus as hijacked by Christians I find repugnant.

I do know a lot of Christians. My whole family is Christian I was brought up in a Christian Church. Most of my friends are Christians. I do love them but sometimes I have seen things almost like out of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Nick K. Thank you for being a prime example. And no I was not trying to bash anyone. People who are so think to claim they are being bashed should grow a backbone.

Yes.
I honestly think that if you understand the bible, especially if you read it in Greek (or even Latin) and then witness Christianity as actually practiced, you can't HELP but feel that way.
It's like the Bible is the sign on the front of a private club that says it's a fraternal beneficient organization and inside it's the mafia.

Sure. There is a type of Christianity that examines life and tries to transform it in ways that enhance justice, peace and compassion. There is another type that is about believing the "right" things and belonging to the "right" group. The first group see scripture as a springboard for constructing an ethical system. The latter see the Bible as an end in itself, almost an idol. The former still asks itself questions. The latter believes only in predetermined "answers" and certainty. It's not just a Christian issue, although the problem is clearly visible there. I think it's an underlying tension between a desire to do "good" and a need to be "right". One risks making mistakes, the other fears losing.

When i was a child i remember being very wary of my religion teachers in school...they gave me the creeps!
I had a good friend who's family was christian, and when i went to stay at their house for the weekend i experienced the same feeling, so i think i know what you mean!
As an adult looking back at it i think i was picking up on the hate that is instilled in them by the bible!..I was not a child from a christian family therefore i was distastefull to them, and i picked up those vibes! I believe that children are very good at judging a character...
Its a shame they( christians) dont exude that christian love they preach!
Blessings!

I think a lot of christians aren't very nice people - certainly some of the most arrogant, obnoxious and self righteous people I have met have been christians
the nicest people seem to be ones who are only in it for the afterlife deal and trying not to think to hard about the contradictory bullcrud that goes with it

Christianity has a very dark past , though that isn't Christ's doing. Yes I understand what you are saying. Everything that was given to us that was good has been made sinful and evil and twisted and the penalties for daring to indulge are hell and torment. Yes. Something wrong there.

1.no, I have never sensed that feeling. If this "feeling" was sensed then Christianity wouldn't be the most followed religion in the world.
2. In what I believe, hell is very real. I'm not forcing hell on you, but how would our "threats" which are actually kind warnings, be evil? If we knew that hell exists, should we sit here and say lets be pricks and not tell them, let them all burn forever and ever, or live a peaceful, everlasting life? Of course not.
So next time, before you go bashing another religion, DO SOME RESEARCH!

I understand your feelings.
Sometimes I feel like that about Atheist's. I just have too sit back and remember that being different then me doesn't make them evil.
You have too understand that the Bible as some bad things in it, But you have too think "Is there a lesson in this?" That is YES! This world has ALWAYS and WILL always have bad things happen. It is inevitable. The Lesson is that during these times, God will be there and Will handle it in his time, and it will turn out right, even if we don't agree with what is truly right, Because it's teaching us that we really don't know what right really is, because we cannot see the future and cannot know how a situation that seems wrong, can be right in the end.

i think of that ANY faith could be utilized by potential of human beings to regulate the minds of people who're weaker. think of proper to the way that Hitler used "faith" to greater his reason which I doubt introduced a grin to the face of Christ while He observed what replaced into being finished. i think of a few human beings take some issues as "given" as a results of fact they have been instructed such issues by potential of a individual they carry to be in authority interior their respective faith. Do anyone succumb to that? hardly. Peace, bill

I avoid Christians at all costs in my personal life. They are backstabbers, liars, hypocrites and just plain unethical. They are ignorant of basic logic and use improper tactics to get you to believe their fantasy.

In many cases this is true... but not ALL cases. I've met some very sincere Christians who don't necessarily toe the "party line", etc. but then I've met kind and unkind people within EVERY religion (and not) I've encountered so far in life, even Buddhism!
