...where we would like to go for a field trip, because we had been planning on taking one. I suggested that we go to our city's museum of natural history. That idea was shot down by most of the group. Why do you think this was so? Why did they not want to go to this museum?

I read a great book years ago on spoonerisms, which comes from the Reverend William Archibald Spooner, who made a lot of these verbal slips. Some of his classics include- fighting a liar instead of lighting a fire nosey little cook instead of cosy little nook our queer old Dean instead of our dear old Queen we'll have the hags flung out instead of we'll have the flags hung out our shoving leopard instead of our loving shepherd and my favorite go help me sod instead of so help me God. My favorite church sign blooper has to be Weight Watchers will meet at 7 pm at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use large double door at the side entrance. The funniest sign on a school in Georgia was Congradulations to our teacher of the year. It was up for over a week before anyone at the school noticed the misspelling.

Evolution. Christians hate to be confronted with the truth.

Looking at fossilized remains of animals that never existed, with dates on them that go back several million years before God created the world, might be a trifle embarrassing and raise some awkward questions.

"maybe they wanted to go somewhere their beliefs were expressed."

Well, that's the problem, isn't it? Unless the facts appear to support their delusion - and they usually don't - "Christians" don't want to hear about it. The world is consequently a small place for them, and they have to waste a lot of time and energy trying to make it impossible for the things that scare them to exist.

For all the people who are trying to argue that the kids probably just wanted to go someplace fun - maybe so, but that wasn't the question. The question was, why did the group NOT want to go on a field trip (which usually doesn't involve theme parks) to the Natural History Museum? And I think we ALL know why.

Don't know but most kids I know at that age would more like to go some place FUN. Maybe like a concert or someplace that has rides and such.

Natural history museums are kind of dull.

I'm guessing the group is made up of mostly teenagers.

How many actual teenagers would rather go to a museum rather than someplace? lol

I'm guessing you went to some place more exciting rather than they didn't want to look at evolution and science.

Just curious, but where did you end up going?

maybe because kids go to museum's with school, and they wanted to have a fun field trip like maybe Disneyland- that is not wrong you know? Christians do like to have fun too, no matter what the majority thinks- and guess what it is ok too!!

If it came to a choice between a theme park or a history museum, I would have chosen the theme park. As a (then) christian and as a geek.

Because most high schoolers seek adventure. They spend all day at school learning. They'd rather get out and do something exciting.

Maybe they had in mind something more active. Not all teens are mature enough to appreciate museums.

It could have been a doctrinal objection, or did the other suggestions include things like skating, video games and pizza?

They probably wanted to go somewhere fun, like an amusement park instead.
