I was diagnosed with eczema more than 5 yrs ago and back then the dermatologist only look at my limbs and body when the condition was really bad.
Now, the only exist on the back of my elbows and my knuckles. However, I noticed my scalp gets very itchy recently, and when I scratch it, alot of flakes came off. Some are transparent, some are slightly yellowish. Sometimes the itch is really persistant and I wounded my scalp due to scratching.
I tried neotrogena T/Gel stubborn itch control (coal tar). It's really a very nice shampoo - stopped the itch and give a extremely cooling sensation when shampooing. However, ocassionally, I feel the itch immediately after my hair is dry after the shampooing. And flakes fell off when I scratch.
I started to wonder after the flakes dandruff or eczema. How do I differentiate the 2?

It sounds like Seborrheic dermatitis, otherwise known as Seborrheic eczema, eczema of the scalp or simply just dandruff. they are one and the same, apparently. Here is a link explaining that:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000963.htm
Many will get this but not eczema elsewhere. Or some may have body eczema but not scalp eczema. Take fish oil capsules as a source of omega 3, and also take Vitamin E capsules (400iu). There is some evidence that these help.
Massage your scalp with coconut oil, or olive oil (either) prior to shampooing, leaving it on your scalp for at least an hour. It should help control this as these oils both have agents that work to remove and prevent dandruff. But you will need to wash it a couple of times to wash out all the oil.
You should determine from your doctor if this is an extension of your eczema condition that you have on your elbows and knuckles. Often, ordinarily, dandruff (sebborheic eczema) is associated with the yeast Pityrosporum ovale. But most people with classic dandruff don't usually have eczema elsewhere so yeast might be the causative agent in such cases. But in your case with eczema elsewhere in addition to the scalp, the causative agent is probably nothing to do with a yeast but directly related to your bodily eczema. A doctor should be able to shed some light on this.
Aloe vera juice (drink) might help both conditions body and scalp. Plus you could try a shampoo based on aloe vera gel.
Here are a couple of links on aloe vera juice and eczema relief:

Have you ever thought of taking a food sensitivity test. Sometimes eating foods that don't suit your constitution can aggravate eczema.
Hope this helps. Best wishes.

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.
