Truth should seem logical, reasonable and attractive.

Consider this: how many idiots have you run into that are NOT Christians. I would bet that the number is quite high. There are a lot of really ignorant people out there. How many people get on here and start arguing scientific stuff or politics or relationships... and it is obvious they have no idea what they are talking about? The truth is that this isn't any different amongst Christians. Some of us, frankly, are idiots. An idiot does not explain things very well, Christian or not. Most of them are just on here to make themselves feel smart or to put others down. That's not what Christianity is all about, but there are people like that among all groups.
Thus, the problem is not Christianity. It is Christians... especially most of the ones here. They are only human, afterall. The best way to really understand the Bible and what it is would be to get involved with Christian charities and missions. Get out there with the REAL Christians: the ones that are actually out there trying to help people. That is what the Gospel is about. If understanding the Bible is your goal, then this is the best way to do it.
In answer to your question, though, Christians believe what they believe in part because of how they were raised, it is true. But they also believe it because of life-changing experiences that they have had due to their faith, prayer, and beliefs. Ultimately, I don't think you should worry about what Christians say, or how they interpret the Bible, which obviously is open to interpretation. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, but the Bible is not where to start. Look inside your own heart for God, in whatever form DOES make sense to you, and you'll find it. All religions, at their essence, are about two things: 1. Developing your inner-spiritual self. 2. Being the best person that you can be. Concentrate on those two things, and you'll find what you are looking for. Whether or not that will be in Christianity is ultimately up to you.
Good luck!

I don't care what any of you say, none of you understand the Bible. Myself included...
To the asker: There is nothing wrong with the fact that you are not finding any answers or personal faith in the writings of the Bible. Keep in mind that this is a book that has been passed down, translated over and over, and largely written and edited by men who sought power. I'm not advocating an anti-Bible agenda, I'm merely saying that those of us who claim to understand any of the Bibles original intentions are for the most part fools.
That's not to say that there are no lessons to be learned from the Bible. There are a number of parables and stories, whether true or fictional that can be applied to situations today. But for the most part they are simply outlandish statements about rules and methods of governing followers that have little to no relevance on today's culture.
All in all...find your own answers. Read the Bible, and if nothing comes of it, then move on. Explore other philosophies, religions, or beliefs...just make sure that you stay true to what you hold as values. But, beware the threat of brainwashing...even the suicide bombers think they are being good Muslims.

Some of it is how you are brought up. And some of it is your level of education.
People who are taught that the bible ect. is literal truth can't understand the rest of the world the way someone who learns science in school would. They can't understand the world the same way, so you might not be able to accept the bible as straight truth because you don't understand the world to be that simple, straight, or black and white and narrow as another person might.
It's natural, and you just have to find your own place in it, which raises more questions.

It all depends on how you were raised. How long you were brainwashed as a child into believing in something. It is funny how some religious people completely deny things like evolution just because it goes against the bible and all that...there is a lot more evidence for evolution than there is evidence that the bible contains truth...
But don't worry your not alone...there are tons of people who don't get religion and wont be mislead by its lies...

It's a bunch of nonsense. Not to mention the staggering amount of tampering and fraud that is evident in the books.
I was a "Born Again" for quite awhile, but actually studying the Bible and the history of the books is what made me the Atheist I am today.
The arguments for the Bible are ridiculous, contradictory and just plain silly.

I don't think you can become a Christian or decide what to believe based on what other people say. I think it is a personal journey. Also, for me, it wasn't how I was brought up. In fact, my religious background made it harder for me. All the Bible stories I was told as a child--you know, the watered-down Sunday school versions--made them just that, stories, and not real events. It took a grown-up perspective and truly settling in to read the Bible and trust it for me to reach this point in my faith. Now God is very real to me. Good luck in your search for answers.

I feel the same way. I do not hate Christians. I have even tried to be a Christian in the past. For whatever reason, I just cannot make myself believe it. I think it is predominantly due to how one is brought up. My Dad never spoke about religion when I was a child. My Mom claimed to be a Christian, but had plenty of doubts. My parents would never get mad at me if I had something to say about religion one way or the other. I never had to worry about being condemned by my family if I did not believe the same way they did.

The Bible requires massive amount of faith and very generous interpretations. I find it to be a great story but not reality. As an athiest and a firm believer in science I think there are more accurate explanations for much to the Bible's stories but at that period in history they didn't exist. It is known as the greatest STORY ever told. It is that but I cannot accept that the laws of science ceased to exist during its creation. I find my moral compass within myself and I believe in the universe around me. I do not buy that we must all live in fear of a mythical hell in order to conduct ourselves in such a manner as to make it into a mythical heaven. Living forever is a long long long time. What will you do when the universe ends in a few billion years? I sure don't want to be around for it.

You write "gospel," as if it has some special meaning, but what does it mean to you? You can be convinced of anything you choose to be convinced of. If you don't accept God, that's certainly your choice. God gave you a free will and you can either accept Him, or reject Him. You have that right. Love that is not free is not real, which is why humans, above all other species of life on Earth, have a free will. God created you because he wants to love you and mold you into His image. And He wants you to love him in return, because you choose to--not because you must. So don't get upset about it. No true christian will force christianity on you. You have the right of choice, just as christians do.
