Didn't you ask this already? I answered, but the question is gone. . .

Martin Luther didn't like purgatory - didn't mix with HIS idea of theology.

To learn the truth of Purgatory read these. Certainly a couple are in your version of the Bible:

Lk 12:58-59; 1 Cor 3:15; Mt 5:25-26 ... temporary agony. Heb 12:6-11 ... God’s painful discipline. Mt 12:32 ... no forgiveness ... nor in the age to come. 1 Pet 3:18-20 ... might be purgatory. 1 Pet 4:6 ... preached to the dead. Rev 21:27 ... nothing unclean shall enter heaven. Heb 12:23 ... souls in heaven are perfect. Col 1:24; 2 Sam 12:13-14 ... “extra” suffering. 2 Mac 12:43-46 ... sacrifice for the dead. 2 Tim 1:15-18 ... prayer for Onesiphorus for “that Day.” 1 Jn 5:14-17 ... mortal/venial sins

Try looking at Luke 16:19-26. It is the only place I know describing "Hades" which is a resting place made of two parts, "paradise" for the saved, and "tartarus" for the lost. These ideas are not represented specifically in the English text but are represented in the Greek.

Truth be known, I don't think there is such a place as purgatory where one can somehow reverse their earthly refusal to accept Christ and gain salvation.

As you well know, the WORD purgatory isn't in the Bible. Neither are the words Bible, Trinity, or Incarnation. Yet you accept those, I assume?

Mt. 12-32) - that some sins are forgiven in the next world:

(Mt. 12-32) - And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of Man it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come (some sins can be forgiven after death-where?)

(1 Cor 3:13,15) - Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. (15) If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire. (the fire is the purification of ???)

(1 Peter 3:19-20) - By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once the long suffering of God waited in the days of Noah…(After Jesus' death he went and preached to the spirits in prison that were disobedient. Now, these prisoners were not in Heaven or Hell, where were they? These spirits are in a waiting place being purified for their disobedience, the place is called ???)

My dear, you will not find the word Purgatory or any teaching in the Holy Bible about Purgatory. That is a Catholic doctrine and theirs alone.

It isn't a Biblical teaching or principle.

Peace be with you.

No - purgatory is not mentioned in the bible. And if it was, there would not need to be 2 scriptures to prove it. There only needs to be 1 scripture to prove anything in God's word.

That is like saying can you Prove the spelling of a word without using a Dictionary.

Sorry you lost the Catholic Faith, I studied it for 20 years before joining it because of the Contradictions in my Protestant faith.

Good Luck and God Bless, I won't trash Our Protestant brothers and sisters, they are fine in my book!

Peace!

It is impossible to support the idea of Purgatory, even with the KJV.
Why?
The idea of Purgatory is a lie.
A book: "The Bad Popes" explains very well that Purgatory was invented simply to bolster the coffers of the church.
Purgatory does not exist.
Purgatory is a lie.
No Bible translation supports that erroneous idea.

But the Catholic Bible is the original Bible. You Protestants just messed it up by removing Maccabees, James, Hebrews, and more books besides those because they said things you don't agree with. So how are we supposed to prove something you don't agree with using your inaccurate Bible, when we could prove it to you using the real Bible?
