The question of what happens after death can be confusing. The Bible is not explicitly clear on when a person will reach their final eternal destiny. The Bible tells us that after the moment of death, a person is taken to Heaven or Hell based on whether he or she had received Christ as his or her Savior. For believers, after death is to be "away from the body and at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23). For unbelievers, after death means everlasting punishment in Hell (Luke 16:22-23).
This is where it can get confusing as to what happens after death. Revelation 20:11-15 describes all those in Hell being cast into the lake of fire. Revelation chapters 21-22 describe a New Heaven and New Earth. Therefore, it seems that until the final resurrection, after death a person resides in a “temporary” Heaven and Hell. A person's eternal destiny will not change, but the precise "location" of a person's eternal destiny will change. At some point after death, believers will be sent to the New Heavens and New Earth (Revelation 21:1). At some point after death, unbelievers will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15). These are the final, eternal destinations of all people - based entirely on whether a person had trusted Jesus Christ alone for the salvation of their sins.

I am not sure I have a soul, nor do I know where it would go after I die. Where it goes is an unimportant question. More important is what actions am I commiting now that will bring happiness to other people and myself. If I am living a compassionate life with wisdom, then I need not worry about where my soul goes when I die.

That depends on what you believe will happen after your death. If you believe your going to go to Heaven if good or Hell if bad then so be it. But you might be of another faith and believe in reincarnation. Who knows, maybe all that energy your body releases will manifest into a ghost, or nothing at all you just might die and thats it.
Whos to say one religion in the entire world is right and the rest are going to be burning in Hell? Its like that one episode of South Park
Man: Im a devote Catholic, why am I in Hell?
Demon: You chose the wrong religion
Other Man: Im a Buddist, I dont believe in God or the Devil, why am I in Hell?
Demon: You also chose the wrong religion.
Other Man: Well damnit, what is the correct religion?
Demon: (flips the page on his clipboard) Mormon...Mormon was the correct answer.

unless you are extremely spiritually advanced, your soul goes into a dreamlike state and you are healed of all the suffering you experienced in this lifetime. Then when the right circumstances arise you get reborn as a baby. Your memories get erased from that lifetime so you can make a clean start without the burden of the pain you accumulated in the last lifetime.

According to the bible, the body goes to the grave, the spirit returns to God who gave it, and the soul (the personality) must undergo a transformation that not all will survive.

Only two places- Heaven or hell.
One way God said to get to heaven-- JESUS is the ONLY way!
( see John 14:6)
Sin separates you from God for all eternity, and without forgiveness in Jesus, you will not receive the kingdom of Heaven.
We have all sinned against God, as Romans 3:23 says and the consequences of that is death, which means hell in the bible.
But God made a way for us, to be with him in heaven- through Jesus Christ, when we repent of sin and put our trust in Him-- pray to Him and ask for His forgiveness, acknowledge you are a sinner and confess to Him. He will give you a new heart, and forgive you of all sin---that is when you become "born again" in His spirit, cleansed, renewed!
John 3:3 says "Unless you are born again you cannot see the kingdom of Heaven"

It all depends on the condition of your soul at the time of your death. If you are a child of God, your soul goes to heaven to be with him. If you are not a child of God, your soul goes to hell for eternal torment.
