Good questions today.
1. Was Mary a Virgin. Mary was, actually, that Immaculate conception. This actually means she was born without the taint of original sin (adam and eve) and was therefore a vessel worthy of the Holy Son. And also a virgin at the time of her conceptions and up until the delivery. In fact, there is a story of a mid-wife who dared to check to make sure and struck down for her insolence. Scripture and Dogma are very clear on both these points. Mary was a Virgin.

Did she stay a virgin? He's where it gets messy. Jesus had several Brothers and sisters. Dogma tries to say they were Joseph's kids from a previous marriage. However, there is a character called Thomas (the twin). Maybe Jesus twin? Wouldn't that throw a monkey wrench? Jewish women at the time counted their wealth to the community in the number of Children they had. In fact, not being provided children was one of the ways a woman could get a divorce. In fact, there was even a table based on profession of how often a man HAD to do the "job". The more children a woman had - the more social status she had.

There is evidence that she might have had kids of her own - there were 7 children in the Joseph and Mary Household. It just doesn't tell their age, birth order or any of that kind of stuff that would let us know. So I guess it's whatever your comfortable with

Yes, Mary was a virgin throughout her life. There are some writings in the Bible that are sometimes misinterpreted to mean that Mary had children later after Jesus (and thus, did not remain a virgin). The word for "brother" and "cousin" in Greek was the same word. Thus, in translations to English and other languages where these relationships are differentiated, the word is often translated as "brother" leading many to believe that Jesus had earthly brothers rather than cousins.
However, one can still reasonably infer that Mary remained a virgin even using the Biblical texts alone (and leaving out the 1000s of years of tradition which passed this information done--she's not called the "Virgin Mary" for nothing!). For example, when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she was to bear a child, she responded with incredibility--"How will this be since I am a virgin?" (Luke 1:34). Mary was not an idiot--she knew one had to have sex in order to conceive a child. Yet clearly, although she was already betrothed to Joseph, they had made some sort of vow to sacrifice sex for one another and for God--otherwise, Mary's reaction would have more reasonably been "Yay! How exciting! How long after we are married will I conceive this baby?"
If you would like to learn about what is theologically referred to as "Mary's Perpetual Virginity," this is a concise and informative article about it: http://www.catholic.com/library/Mary_Ever_Virgin.asp

Mathew 1:18-25 Mary was a virgin. Joesph took Mary's hand in marriage prior to Jesus' birth but they did not consumate the marriage until after the birth.

Mary did have other children with Joesph. We know that one of his brother's name was James.
(Matthew 12:46, Mark 3:31, Luke 8:19, John 7:3, Acts 1:14)

The Bible is real clear on this. Mary most certainly was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus. In Luke 1:3-35, after the angel tell Mary that she will conceive a son and should call his mane Jesus, she asks "How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?" The angel answers her by telling her that she will conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost. After Jesus was born, she had a normal relationship with her husband and had at least 4 sons and 2 daughters.,James, Joses, Juda, Simon and at least 2 unnamed daughters. (See Mark 6:3) I know that the Catholic Church says that this means "brethren", like followers, but the language is clear and the people in the synagogue who said this were offended with him since he was just a carpenter and had a family that they were acquainted with and was teaching as if he had authority and doing such "mighty works". (See also Luke 8:19-21.)

Depends on who you ask. All Christians agree that Mary was a Virgin when she gave birth to Jesus. However, the Catholics will tell you that Mary remained a virgin until she died. Protestants believe that she was not a virgin when she died and that she had children with Joseph.

The real translation from Hebrew says she was a young maiden. In those days, that would mean she was unmarried, and as such would be assumed she was a virgin. She was also probably 14-15 years old at the time. She was a virgin until after the birth of Christ. But it does say that Joseph "knew" her, which in biblical terms means they had sex after Christ was born. They were married, so it would make sense that they did. Yes, Mary and Joseph had other children. I mean, if you are having sex without birth control, it can be assumed that there were probably many children.

Dear miki,

Mary was a virgin when Jesus was conceived and born. The Bible tells us after Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph did have children: "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house." (Mark 6:3-4).

Matthew a million:25 “Douay-Rheims Bible And he knew her no longer till ultimately she delivered forth her firstborn son: and he referred to as his call JESUS. The bible says: "he knew her no longer till ultimately..." and not consummate. to your added counsel, confer with protection of St Jerome: Saint Jerome Defended Mary’s Perpetual Virginity The opinion that Mary, after the virgin start of Jesus, did no longer have a marital relationship together with her husband Joseph, or produce different sons, is professed in unison by way of the Fathers of the Church of the 4th to 6th centuries. there have been in easy terms some remoted voices and protesters like Jovinien, Bonose, and Helvidium. it is why the Fathers of the Church positioned the “lily of virginity” in Saint Joseph’s hand, no longer as a biblical theological anachronism, yet simply by fact the end results of a rigorous refusal of the Protogospel (apocryphal) of James. the recent testomony says no longer something of Joseph’s first or no longer to show 2d marriage and Jerome ought to subsequently say: “We have faith that God became born of a Virgin simply by fact we study it; we've not got faith that Mary, after the start of Jesus, had a marital relationship, simply by fact we've not study it.”

no she wasn't a virgin. Virgin means pure. She had a pure spirit. Jesus was born the same way all of us were. She obviously didn't remain a virgin after Jesus. A marriage wasn't official until it was consummated. Therefore, I am sure they had more children. But beware, most Christians don't believe this thought. To them, it was a miracle. Although I don't know why it needed to be. I suppose teaching love to those he came in contact with isnt miracle enough.

sorry to offend all of the ill taught Catholics out there , but there is NO scriptural evidence that Mary was perfect and did not need a savior, there is NO scriptural evidence that Mary ascended into heaven and is now an intercessor (as a matter of fact scripture directly ocntradicts this) and there is NO scriptural evidence that says Mary was a perpetual virgin- scripture says that Mary did not know her husband WHILE she was carrying Jesus- the Bible is very clear that Mary and Jesus were wed and had children after Jesus was born.
Read it, it is not ambiguous or confusing!
