This is such an annoying thing, I turned while the light was green, I went slow (15 mph), probably that was the problem, but there were pedestrians, so I could not go faster. Anyways, I want to fight this ticket, but the at the original court date I will be out of country. When I went online, I got 2 options, I can delay the court date until august, or I can make an appointment and go to court, anytime before I leave the Country. In your opinion, does it give me a better chance to delay the courtdate, or to walk in, and try to defend myself ASAP? Looking forward to hear about your court experiences.

However, if I delay it until August, do I still pay the $165 fee in advance?

If there were pedestrians in the street obstructing you from making the turn and having to slow down you should not have made the turn. A pedestrian has the right of way and you are not allowed to make the turn while he is in your side of traffic, like if there is a medium in the middle, until he reaches that, here it is called failure to yield, same thing goes if you enter an intersection and traffic stops leaving you in the middle, it's your fault, and can be ticketed, just pay the ticket.

I guess your left turn must of obstructed on-coming traffic in the other direction as you wait for pedestrians to finish crossing? Or perhaps you alarmed the pedestrians when making that left turn?

Anyhow, if you goto court.. judge will reduce the fine and ask if you're willing to pay. If you still want to contest it, you will have to find another appointment date and court will try to get the officer there. Then if the police officer shows up, it'll be his word vs your word.. and you will lose. If police officer does not show up, you got a chance of ticket being dismissed.

btw, I doubt you went 15mph.. that's very fast for a left turn at a light(assuming you made a left on a lighted intersection. If you actually did went 15mph.. the officer probably ticketed you for going too fast when making a left.. thus it was unsafe.

good luck..

If it's more convenient, wait till August. They don't check to see how long ago you got the ticket.
I'd def go for fighting it. I've always fought mine and a lot of the times the cops don't even bother showing up so you pretty much get let off for taking the time to come in.

It probably doesn't matter. Either way, the judge won't even look at your case until it pops up on his desk. It will most likely be dismissed no matter how you do it as "unsafe left turn" is highly subjective considering there was no accident.

Did you wait for the pedestrians to be at least one lane away from your lane before crossing the crosswalk?

You can fight any accusation. Plead not guilty and set a trial. If you are asking if the judge will believe you or the cop, or any other evidence, I have no idea.

if someone is in the crosswalk you can't go. period.

pay the ticket, go to traffic school if you have not had a "performance award" in a while.

ASAP, because you will forget all about it or will just want to leave it be when you come back.
