I was just approved for ssi. I have multiple sclrosis they found me permenently disabled. When they give you your back pay do they take out taxes or is it tax free.

SSI is not taxable. You don't report SSI on your income tax form. If it was social security disability and not SSI, then the answer might be different.

You need to request that they take out the taxes or you will have to pay that at the end of the year.
