Desert Eagles are huge and bulky and heavy, not to mention not as reliable since it has a fixed barrel. But it is one of the most entertaining pistols to shoot and it is incredibly accurate. The Glock 21 is also a great pistol. Not exactly big bore but a great pistol cartridge. Very powerful but you will notice the snappy uncontrollable recoil and deafening sound. It will have more recoil than the Desert Eagle.
If you like 1911's this would be one of the best options you could make. Buy an all steel 1911 and add a 28# recoil spring and shoot .45 Super out of it. This cartridge will fit in your stock .45ACP barrel and still fire at a safe pressure. 1911's can easily handle cartridge pressures way higher than the .45ACP's. 45 Super throws a 230 grain bullet at 1100 fps. 300 fps faster than the .45ACP's 900 fps.

Then if that STILL is not enough power for you check out the 460 Rowland. You can buy a conversion kit for you 1911 to fire this cartridge. It throws a 230 grain bullet at 1340 fps. Its more powerful than the 44 magnum. Thats a lot of power in a very reliable concealable handgun. It also would be suitable for bear hunting.

Here is the conversion kit.

The .10mm has as much energy at a 100 yards as a .45 acp does at the muzzle. It is clearly the more powerful caliber. The .45 does shoot a wider slug, but the .10mm has more stopping power and penetrates barriers better. Both are good man-stoppers. The .45 has been around longer, but it is 'early 20th. Century technology using a fat, slow bullet to assure wound diameter.'
The Desert Eagle is a behemoth pistol which is a burden to carry, much less conceal. If you need a .50 caliber bullet, then more power to you, but the Glock Model 20 in .10mm is as big as it gets in a standard platform. No, the .10mm is NOT just a .40 S & W; the .10mm came first and aficionados consider the .40 the 'short n weak son of 10' (which is not exactly correct, since the .40 is not just a shortened ten; the ten uses a large pistol primer while the .40 uses a small pistol primer).
Pick what works for you. If you strictly want big bore, go with the .50 caliber action express. Next up is the .45 acp in bore diameter. Finally you have the .10 and the .40 S & W. If you want medium-bore, the .357 Sig should work well for you.

Kimber makes 10mm 1911's. Guncrafter Industries makes a .50 1911. Desert Eagles are overrated. But the Glock 20 w/ Double Tap ammo in my opinion is the best bet for a Big Bore semi-auto.

While the Desert Eagle is overrated, between those two firearms, the Desert Eagle, shooting the 10mm as you stated, is your best bet.
Remember that the 10mm is really only a .40 caliber bullet. It is basically a slightly more powerful (faster) version of the .40S&W.
If you want true, honest to goodness stopping power in an autoloading pistol, there's no substitute for the .45 ACP cartridge. If you are going to get a Desert Eagle, why go with 10mm when you can have the .50 AE chambered Desert Eagle? And even then, why not just by a .45 ACP?
I swear there's a gremlin following me around giving me thumbs down, lol.

10mm isn't really big bore. It's just a fast .40
The .45 ACP is really the biggest practical auto pistol round. It's also the heaviest. Personally I prefer 1911s in .45...I shoot the best with those pistols, and so do most people. That's why they're seen so often in competition and elite CQB units (Marines, Delta, LAPD SWAT). The only way you're getting heavier is with a DE in .50 AE, but be prepared to pay though the nose for that.
.50 AE is pretty useless for most shooting. There's nothing it does that isn't done better by something else, except long range steel silhouette shooting (you wouldn't be asking us if you did that).

There are not many selections when it come to big bore semi-auto handguns. Here are the only ones I know of the Auto Mag, Desert Eagle, Lar Grizzly, Wildey. Each of these can be viewed and purchased at gunbroker.com.

the .45 is a manstopper, but if you want big you might want to consider a revolver they never misfire they carry huge calibers I have shot the 454 casull, that shell looks like a 450 marlin. the .44 mag and i know there is a 500 i don't know much about that one but anyhow in a pinch they're heavy and you can hit someone with it...haha
