A man says he is a loving father.
The man beats his children "for their own good".
People say " I do not like beating children, so I do not like loving fathers."

Of course this is a stupid example.
Or is it a good example?
Everyone can see in this example that the man is not a loving father, even though he claims to be, because everyone had a pretty good idea what a "loving father" really is.

But most people do not know what a "Christian" is.
Contrary to public opinion, calling yourself a Christian does not have anything to do with it.

Surprisingly enough, even believing in god has very little to do with being a Christian.
REMEMBER: Satan, The devil, The father of light, the price of darkness appearing as a prince of light, The adversary, The evil one, Whatever you call him... Remember this...
The Devil Believes in God and has seen the miracles of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Oops, most of us forget that.

No, believing is not enough.
Nor is calling of the name of the Lord.
Did Jesus not warn us that many would appear before him at the time of Judgment and say "We did [all these miracles] in your name" and Jesus will answer, "Away from me [evil-doers], I do not know you"

Many a wayward television evangelist and other popular preacher should paint this passage on their bedroom ceiling in florescent orange.

So who is a Christian?

Did Jesus not say [in Aramaic] something like "The person who hears what I command and does it, that person is the one who loves me.“?

What is the work of a Christian?
To Believe.
And, thus believing, it is natural to do all the other things as well,
Loving your neighbor
Turning the other cheek
Etc.
(Read the Sermon on the Mount for a good beginning list.)

So, the answer is this.
Read the bible.
Make a list of the rules in the bible.
If someone does something you do not like, look at the list.
If the activity you do not like is on the no-no list,
then PLEASE do not call that person a Christian.
Even if the person calls himself a Christian.

If you do not know a person and want to know if they are a Christian, one way to find out is ask the person:

Is Jesus Christ your lord and savior?

I have noticed that "fake Christians" give some wandering answer, but a "real" Christian says, "YES".

This is even the way recommended in the bible to "test the spirit" [of someone]

I highly recommend everyone to test his or her pastor this way. Be prepared to change meeting houses :(
I asked this question in Seattle to more than a dozen pastors.

Surprisingly, the clearest answers came from JEWS who believed in Jesus.

Or, perhaps not too surprisingly, as Peter, Paul, etc were all Jews.

Anyone who kills someone for his or her religious believes is helping the devil.
Some Catholics in Spain killed every Christian who kept the same Sabbath that Jesus did, and no Pope till John Paul II ever apologized for that!
(Pope John Paul II is the only Bishop of Rome in the last half millennium who seems to me to do what the bible says to, but I did not study this well, so their might be others.)

So, in conclusion, evildoers are not Christians, and do not Judge real Christians or God himself, by the actions of these liars. Many people pretending to be Christians are worse than the devil. Remember, Satin's was thrown out of heaven just for the sin of singing a different melody than god.

Sometimes it sounds nasty, yes. The truth offends. Sorry.

2Ti 2:15 Let it be your care to get the approval of God, as a workman who has no cause for shame, giving the true word in the right way.

2Ti 2:25 Gently guiding those who go against the teaching; if by chance God may give them a change of heart and true knowledge,

Col 4:6 Let your talk be with grace, mixed with salt, so that you may be able to give an answer to everyone

1Pe 3:15 But give honour to Christ in your hearts as your Lord; and be ready at any time when you are questioned about the hope which is in you, to give an answer in the fear of the Lord and without pride;

Edit: Our Savior, Yashua, was a man of passion. He did not turn the other cheek for the moneylenders in the temple. He did not turn the other cheek when He was giving the Jewish leadership the what-for over their false traditions.

Now, on this forum, we expect to find, in general terms, "religious" people. Some of which claim to be christian and some not. As Christ did not pull any punches with the religious leaders of His day, and as He taught the masses of His day, so should we christains speak up for the truth.

We are all human and that humaness gets in our way of living perfectly as Jesus had during His time on earth. This is not an excuse but an explanation of why some Christians on YA sometimes respond in other than Christian ways.

It would help if some out there didn't antagonize Christians with blatant disrespect. Not honest and thoughtful questions from those who are unaccustomed to Christianit, I'm talking about questions about Jesus genitalia, etc. Christians are human and if you poke us too much we are likely to snap back.

Not everyone who claims to be a Christian actually has any idea what Christianity is about. For many real Christians, "turning the other cheek" probably means ignoring a lot of the ignorant drivel posted here under the guise of "Christian bashing"!

I am a Christian. I try to not be nasty. . .but I am not your personal punching bag.

Most of the time the nastiness is a result of nastiness. You ask a stupid question get a stupid answer kind of thing.

I have a sense of humor, but mocking my God is not funny to me and shows a lack of understanding and tolerance on the part of those who do it.

In comparison to your question, as it is written in Mark 3:5......"And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.".......Our attitudes should be in the same manner of Jesus'.......Jesus was angry about the pharisees' and uncaring attitudes. Anger itself is not not wrong. It depends on what makes us angry and what we do with our anger. Too often we express our anger in selfish and harmful ways. By contrast, Jesus expressed his anger by correcting a problem---healing the man's hand. As Christian believers, we must use our own anger to find constructive solutions rather than to tear people down.

They only turn the other cheek when it suits them to do so - say - if they were out in public, it wouldn't look good to let lose with both barrels (hypothentically speaking of course). But in private - say - like sending a message to another user - they don't hold back much. And its usually one short sentence, with this much space taken up by (#@%#)! This is irritating - do they think just their ave name tells me what friken question I answered that ticked them off so much?

Defending one's faith is not being nasty. I've seen a lot more nastiness from athiests here than I have from christians.

last I checked Christians were people too...well, most of them...some are just scary, but that's another story. There's nothing wrong with having a conversation. Sure people will get mad and be down right rude and that's not right, shame on them and me because I'm sure I'd say something out of anger if someone provoked me! Christians aren't perfect and if they claim to be they're about as weak as their faith.
