I think just being in Hawaii is good enough.

Beach, play golf, water stuff (wind surfing, sea doo etc.) . If you have a car drive over the volcanoes national park. It's a really long drive, leave early in the AM. Take flashlights and make sure you have sneakers or some other good walking shoe (not sandals) , drive down the "craters road" (i think that is what's its called) and hike out to the lava flow pouring into the ocean.
You won't be sorry going to see the volcanoes. My ~14 year old, never interested in anything, daughter was absolutely fascinated by the lava flows.
The fresh lava is pitch black, if the sun goes down it's blacker than black out there. Hence the flashlights. The lava is very sharp to walk on, hence the good shoes. If you wear flipflops your feet will get all cut up.
Somewhere along the road between Kona and the volcanoes park was a beautiful black sand beach, be sure you stop at that.
Also, the Kona coffee is pretty dang good. Be sure to bring some home, it's hard to find outside of Hawaii.

Kailua-Kona on the Big Island... there's the tourist lane down on Alii drive where all the little shops are. It's a great lane to jog down and watch the sunset. You can go for a swim, but beware that there's lots of lava rocks. You might want to head north to Hapuna Beach where the white sands are, and south to Kealakehe for snorkling. Other stuff in Kona...diving, sportsfishing, cycling, glass boat. The Ironman Triathlon goes through Kona every year. Other interests...Kona cofee, University of the Nations...and lots of sun!! Wear sunblock, shades, and a hat at all times! And don't forget beach side luaus offered at most hotels...
