the child goes missing...possibly snatched...nobody has even thought the parents may have done something and are trying to cover it up(now theres food for thought)we all know who i'm talking about...the mc'canns but they are 2 proffesional docs...wot if it was a single mum or unemployed couple...do you think they will get done and looked into when they return to the UK? I bet not....would it have been different if it was a single mum or not so well off couple? i reckon so...what do you think and why?

sorry, I know its a terrible thing that has happened and no parent would want to go through what the mccans are going through, but what responsible parent would leave 3 small children in a hotel room while out gallivanting?

I personally think it is wrong. Me, as a single mother to an 18 month old would never dream of leaving my daughter alone in a different room, in the same house let alone be x amount of feet away. I totally agree with you, things would be so different if it was a single parent on benefits or with a less glamorous job, they would be the prime suspect, there would be so many questions as to why the child/ren where left alone, social services would be involved. In society today if your single parent and something happens, you are to blame!!!

even though i think that the parents are absolutley stupid to have left two twin babies and a small child on their own i do feel for them as they must feel awful about it and feel so guilty. i can not believe that people of their profession can be so irresponsible. you can almost expect of some chavy teenage parents who do not give a toss about their kids. i have never thought that the parents had anything to do with it or shouldbe treated as suspects BUT social services should def get involved. checking on young children every half an hour when they can not even see the accomodation from where they were dining i appaling. what if they woke up crying and had to spend 30mins alone not knowing where their mummy or daddy are, what about fires etc it is not just about what about abduction. they should not be allowed to have children if this is what they do. if you want a holiday where you can go out and have fun then dont have kids or go away without them then this would not happen!

Hypothetically they would be vilified by the Press and banged up faster than you can say "Meet you at the Tapas Bar". This hypocrisy and media whitewashing is appalling, and so obvious. I think the Press may have backed the wrong horses here. Oh and Caesar's Wife? Who REALLY needs to be told not to leave their kids alone? Anyone arrogant and stupid enough to do that shouldn't be allowed to be a parent anyway. I don't need to learn from the McCann's stupidity, even though I never finished Uni I have common sense. It's a pity the McCann's don't, isn't it? Edit: Paul F, absolutely SPOT ON! 100% What would the Telegraph headline be?

i answered a question saying what you are saying and the people gave me thumbs down, i agree if it was a single mum on a council estate she would of been rip apart by the public and the other kids would more then likely taken away, yes i feel sorry but for the girl she has been put in danger cause of the parents own stupidly, I'm only hoping that the girl has been sold to sum-one whom cant have kids and looked after at least then she have sum chance of living without her mummy and lets pray she hasn't been sold to enter the sex trade of even murdered. I cant begin how to imagine the parents are feeling knowing that if they didn't leave her she would still be with them but that's sum-thing they will have to live with for the rest of their lives that's a punishment in its self

at the end of the day, wether they are a professional couple or a single mum of 9 children they are being punished enough for their error.
My husband & myself would never of left our children like they did (maddie went missing whilst we were enjoying 2weeks in greece with our 2 small children) both our children, the youngest being 3 spent every night of our holiday awake & within our sight, late nights & lyings & i'm sure if something horrific had happened whilst they were up at 1130pm like falling from the bar balcony etc we would have been condemmed for being bad parents for keeping them out late. parents can't win, somebody will always disagree with the way you parent, easpecially when something goes wrong but no jury or punishment could make them regret their dissesion to leave those children sleeping that night anymore than their own conscience.

We don't know that at all- to be honest I am sick of the speculation and sick of the coverage now - there is no news - I do understand why the family want to try and keep it in the spotlight - but that will not necessarily get her found - a lot of time has now elapsed and the police have no new leads and no concrete evidence!
I certainly don't think the couple have anything to do with her disappearance!
That would be an awfully sick thing to do - they don't need money - they had plenty - so I don't think they were behind it and also I don't think they will be answerable - they were on Portuguese soil so they are cetainly not accountable on UK soil!

I don't understand this case. You hear stories of people forgetting about their children in cars and those people are charged. If the children had been hurt in the room they would be charged. If I go drop off my child at the corner I'll be charged.

So if your kid wanders or is taken because they have no supervision that is okay? HUH I don't feel sorry for those parents I feel sorry for Maddy. My biggest fear is something happening to my child and her wondering where mommy is. I cannot even begin to imagine doing that on purpose.

Or someone could have already paid for a child of said age and sex with certain skin and hair colouring to be abducted because they already have a buyer.

Note the child has been seen in another country, true or false has yet to be determined - obviously the child would have been smuggled if true as the passport and immigration control in any country would no doubt have identified the child.

Like many before me, I think this question has run its course. The Mccanns have been criticised massively (much of this website is now full of it) for leaving their child alone, even to the point of possibly facing prosecution! I really fail to see how a single mother could be criticised more. Sorry not to be more sympathetic, but I feel that in some circumstances, we are equal and when one is wrong, another cannot be more wrong.
I say this, because I do have a lot of respect for single mothers and this question in my mind seems to belittle them.
