Read Genesis chapters 1 & 2. There are two creations of humans. Adam & Eve were created in chapter 2 but there were already other people created in chapter 1. Most people don't interpret it this way but that's how it reads. Check it out.

The Bible is actually a set of books, and each of these books must be read in the manner appropriate to that style of writing. A historical narrative like the Acts of the Apostles is not meant to be read the same way as a poetic parable like Job, which in turn is read differently than a divinely-inspired dream like Revelation. A good scripture-study group, such as the one I attend weekly, will help understand the variety of books in the Bible and the most helpful ways to approach each one.
The Adam & Eve story is found in the book of Genesis, which is not a historically-based account. Genesis is a book of origin myths. "Myth" does not mean what it is often carelessly taken to mean, an irrelevant untruth. A myth is actually a story that is true at the deepest and most fundamental level of truth, telling us something important about the way things are. A myth is not necessarily true in terms of historical fact. Literal-minded people have a hard time understanding how a thing can be true in some way other than literal. Literal-minded people of religious faith often make the mistake of thinking that they must accept all of Genesis as literally true, or else be guilty of lack of faith. Literal-minded people who are not religious often make the mistake of thinking that because Genesis is not all literally true, it therefore says nothing worth saying.
The Adam & Eve story tells us important truths about human nature. It tells us that at some point early in human history, the human race turned away from the place we were intended to fill in the universe, and turned away from our maker, and that our subsequent misfortunes have been brought on our own heads, generation after generation, by our own behavior. The actual existance of a specific pair of people named Adam and Eve is not important. We are all descended from ancestors who went wrong, that's what the story wants us to know. Whether there were two of them or an entire race of them is not the point.

Dear shewolf,
You must remember that Adam lived to be 930 years old. The Bible tells us that Adam and Eve had other children besides those named in Genesis 3 and 4. We read these verses in Genesis 5:3, 4 "And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth:
And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:"
One must search the Bible to find truth. So we know that Cain and Seth both married one of their sisters who are not named in Genesis.
Remember to always pray and ask God for wisdom when you are seafor and answer to a question in His word.

Lots of thinking going on...love it, love it!!!
Simply for justification of this one compilation...although the Bible says that A & E were the "first", I couldn't find anywhere that said "only"...and if it does someplace, it would be wrong, anyway...
Imagine that the evolutionary process progressed in only one place on this grand planet?...there were only two of everything from plant to animal to get things rolling?...that this is the only place people came from? Or that a single amoeba was stategically placed? LOL...gets that brain cookin', yes?
Look around you...how do new species become? See how the Earth has adapted & changed during it's time thus far... Do you imagine that these very same processes have not been going on since Day One?
Another point to ponder...if Bible Literalists insist that all came from only these two, then why is incest illegal, let alone immoral???

Let's not be naive about this. Adam and Eve were the first 2 humans on Earth. From their union, the world was populated. Adam and Eve lived much longer than we do and they, of course, had many children. Is it any wonder that these children married, or were given in marriage to replenish the earth? Is it also any wonder that as these offspring were married, they occupied themselves in different directions and continued to replenish the earth? Surely, you understand this.

Hello there,
I am a student/teacher of the manuscripts;
We are not, and I repeat: WE ARE NOT ALL DECENDANTS OF ADAM AND EVE.
All the races were created "in the flesh - we were already souls living" on the 6th day in Genesis. Adam was created and Eve was formed on the 8th day. There were already thousands of people on the earth.
The 6th day creation founded the first known town on Earth, called Nod. This is where Cain found a wife when he was thrown out of the Garden of Eden.
Seth was the son of mother Eve and father Adam.
However, many people don't realize that Abel and Cain were only half-brothers.
Abel was Adams son, but Cain was Satans son. Think thats crazy? Read Genesis 5:1, where you find the geneology of Adam:
you won't find Cain listed there, because Cain simply was not Adams son. When Cain was thrown out of the garden, a mark was placed on him. Ever hear of the "mark of the beast"? This is the mark's beginning, right here on Cain - the mark of his own blood father, Satan himself.
This is a rabbit hole that goes far deeper than most realize.............

Two answers -
First the easy answer is that the Genesis story of creation is an allegory and not meant to be interpreted literally.
For those that want to be literal, the second answer is in Gen 6:4 The Nephilim... when the sons of God and the daughters of humankind and they gave birth by them...
Take your pick.

Adam and Eve were the first people recorded.
They represent all humans that evolved on the earth at around that time.
Humans evolved like the scientists say and God put in their spirit to make them true humans.
