I don't really understand your question. I am a Mormon. Our missionaries do wear white shirts and ties as representatives of the Church. In what sense are they trying to fool someone? What are you suggesting they are really up to? They are serving God and their Church by volunteering two years of their life to go and teach the Gospel to people they don't know. They postpone school, jobs, and dating so that they can do what they feel is a great service to the world.
I served a mission in Brazil for two years. It was two of the best years of my life. Besides helping bring people into my Church, I also taught free English classes, did at least four hours of community service per week, helped teach poor people to read, and many other wonderful activities.
Don't be suspicious of Mormon missionaries--they're just doing what they believe to be right.

Know what we are up to? Maybe you could enlighten me. I just thought they were sacrificing two years of their lives to teach what they believe to be true, and to help the communities they are in. Didn't know there was something else they are doing. Oh.. you spelled Mormon wrong, and personally, I don't like that word, try LDS. Maybe you will get better responses with it. ;)

Well next time you see two Mormons in their white shirts and ties, you should ask them what they are up to. I bet they will tell you.

Besides someone has to keep Mens Warehouse and Mr. Mac (Utah) in business.

I've never met a mormon who wasn't a nice, upstanding member of society. I've known several. They have been hard working, kind and caring. As far as christians go, they'd be pretty high up on my list of true christians.

Latter-day Saints are up to spreading the Word of God. Don't think we can be any clearer about that.

It's down to presentation. They believe with some justification that it makes them appear more respectable.

Personally I am more likely to listen to someone dressed like average Joe Schmoe. The shirt and tie make them look like they are trying to sell me something. Which is, in a way, an accurate portrayal of their intent.
