have you ever envied a fundamental christians ability to answer questions and make statements or judgments without letting logic, or proof get in the way? Just the ability to spout without backing it up with any incontrovertible evidence?

It's an interesting question actually. To free yourself of the clothing of reason and proof must be liberating, but maybe a bit too much: like wandering through a dark forest entirely naked.

But this should not concern the fundamentalists. They put on shackles of faith and dogma.

I know what I'd rather be wearing.

No...Anyone who can answer questions and make statements or judgments without letting logic, or proof get in the way and spout without backing it up with any incontrovertible evidence regardless of religious affiliation, is a complete idi*t. There would be no point to any argument if you couldn't properly back your claims.

I was an Atheist for 20 years, and while I never envied Fundies (still don't) I was always in awe of how Hindus and Marxists seemed to have an answer for EVERYTHING in their world view. I've been told Confucianism has the same wide spread "answer for everything" scope to it.

Personally even though I'm a "true believer" now as some call us derisively, I distrust anyone who thinks they have all the answers. (I'm looking at you, Tom Cruise and the Scientologists! :-) )

No one has ALL the answers, anyone who says they do, automatically has less answers than the rest of us. "All men know nothing. Socrates who knows he knows nothing, is the wisest man of all."

That said, you have to admit, the atheists here talk crap as much as the Fundies do.

No. How can I envy pains in the arses? Why would I want to be despicable, despised and a liar? I am happy to admit I do not know all the answers. Far from envy them, I pity them. What kind of happy can they live in when they constantly fear going to hell for every fart they omit.

No, but it is something that has puzzled me for years,
I have reached the only conclusion that I think fits the bill, they are all (and that means all religions) completely brain washed!
I don't mean that in a derogatory manner, although it may appear that way.
The way I see it is that no one is born with an in bred belief in God or religion, we are all born innocent of just about everything, (even us atheists)!!!
As we mature we soak up knowledge from those around us , schools , parents etc, and even church or wherever our parents cart us off to.
Whether this 'knowledge' is correct or not it is all absorbed.
It seems logical to me (sorry to bring logic into this again) that we will all question this 'logic' somewhere along the way.
It's my opinion that logic and religion are just incompatible, they just don't equate.

I do not admire them in the least.
They cannot think for themselves.
What annoys me most is that world leaders and royalty actually believe there are gods; these people are running the country and, to a certain extent, they are in charge of our lives, and we have to put up with them.
In 100 years time there will be no religions; people do not have to be religious to become good citizens.
I have never been in trouble, I have never interfered with children, I have never shop-lifted or stolen or caused grief to anyone.
Now how about those religious types who abuse young children, steal from the church and act more like criminals than spiritual leaders.
They are mostly hypocritical and two-faced. One of them shall remain anonymous, but they are the worst, they can commit sins and crimes and get rid of the blame just by going to church and confessing to the priest and the only punishment they get is a few hail mary`s and an `our father,` etc. Then they are in the so-called `state of grace` so they can attend church.
Piffle.

I envy them their beliefs that sustain them through life and all its horrors.Myself,I rely on my own strength and courage and the ability to be an optimist despite others doom and gloom.I find it impossible to believe in any religious being that makes their followers do the dreadful things they do to others in the name of their "god". I believe that if we got rid of religeon we would have got a chance of ending wars as they all seem to be the cause of them world wide.

I've heard that this is why the philosopher Aquinas became Christian. He was simply amazed at the abandonment of logic. Personally, however, that doesn't appeal to me.

I envy the sense of community within a church and the power they have within our nation, but I'm not joining based on that.

Do I envy a Christian because he/she makes statements without and proof or logic?

No, because then I would be a BLOODY NUTTER. All religious people blindly follow some religion with no REAL reason.

Maybe GOD does exist, but then how do you know your religion is correct? YOU don't.

That's why I don't follow any religion-

IF YOU BELIEVE IN GOD THEN DO SO WITHOUT THESE MUMBO JUMBO RELIGIONS.

No, I wouldn't call it envy. It is an amazing talent, but since it's frequently directed at me and not in a nice way, I have only ever found it annoying.
