I'm not really christian. I love jesus and all, but think of jesus in a different way (more of the gnostic spiritual veiw), and I'm buddhist (no we don't worship buddha). My husband brings me to church w/him, and I see they have fun activities I'd like to be with them. This one church thou, we stopped going to because the preacher kept talking about his personal life and it was boring and I guess not really christian ( do most churches do this?), also he kept talking of animals in gross ways wich seemed to un-christian like (example: we was talking about his love of family get-togethers wich was fine, untill he started talking about how he loves meat an all, wich is his choice, but talked about tearing it apart, eat certain peices and stuff, talked about animals like they are just stupid play things for humans.). My question is, I like going to a christian church, it can be spiritual and opening, but are they all like this?

fireball, I didn't ask your opinion on what animals are, and if all christians think like this, I can see why so many people are parting from their church

jefery, I think same thing! even if u eat them or not ( I mean, animal do eat each other), but I think since we are smart, we should respect them better than that, they are alive also, they feel pain also, so eating them is not my problem with the preacher, its talking about them the way he does.

We love to have non-Christians in Our Church, that is where we get our new members. Some of our members are not even Christian and we love to see them come to the Lord. I know because I was one of them. Please remember that people are not perfect, only God is perfect. Christians make mistakes every day, but we are forgiven. Want a perfect church, with perfect people in it? Don't waste your time looking, you won't find one. Want a challenge? Be the force in your Church to get it as close to perfection as you can. God will richly bless you and your efforts.

Your very last sentence...as a rule, Christians like people that are like themselves at their church. No, do not mention how barbaric his attitude toward animals is...he won't understand what you are saying. I really can identify with what you are saying about going to church and seeing these things. The Buddhist perceptive of life is so opposite the Christian one...so different. I too view Jesus as a prophet...
Most of the Christian churches I have gone to ARE like this one you describe. Good luck!

well for one, no not all churches are like this, it may be worth having a look around some of your local churches.
also christians should enjoy non christians entering their church. its a way to reach out to non christians and show love.
christians are taught to love one another, and to accept "foreign" people into their church, by that i mean people outside of the normal church group.
you say you love jesus but ur not a christian, i think thats a contradiction. to be a christian you need to love jesus, thats the only criteria.
if you love him you should try to follow his teachings, after all, he went through a painful death just so YOU could have a relationship with him :)
sorry if that got a bit bible bashery towards the end

pretty much any preacher is going to talk about how their past lives were before the found salvation. but the whole animal part i've never heard. the only thing i ever hear is that penacostal preachers love their fried chicken. lol. anywho, i don't think it would be rude to tell him about your beliefs and that you think that its rude to talk about animals in the way he was. he should be understanding and respectful to his flock. and to answer that question on if christian churches accept non-christians. if they aren't accepting that is wrong and not a good reflection on christians everywhere. i know that if you and your husband were to visit my church you'd be pleased with the exceptional acceptance you would recieve. to be christ-like defines a "christian".

All churchs are unique. Some are very open and accepting of all belief systems and some are very closed and suspecious. I understand your frustration, but don't give up based on one experience. I'm visiting churches myself, and some I know right away are a no-go, but others are pretty good. Just look around.

So you go to both a Catholic CHRISTIAN church and a generic Christian church. Stick with the Catholics; they're accurate.

No, not all 'Chrisian' churches have the 'preacher' talk about animals (frequently). In my present viewpoint, they are God's creatures also.
