The steps for dual-booting Vista on an XP PC are:

1. Back up ALL your PC's important data.

2. Partition your hard drive. In Windows XP, Create a new "primary" partition to install Vista on. Make it at least 20 gigabytes in size.

NOTE: Doing this after you have Installed XP with only one partition will require some sort of Software like Partition-Magic or some other partitioning software. This will probably cost some money as I don't know of any free programs for this. I have heard that the free edition of GParted Live CD may work. The you need to re-partition the hard drive without destroying the data already on the drive.

3. Install Vista on the new partition. Pop in the Vista CD and point it to your newly-created partition as the installation destination. Installation will restart your machine at various points.

3. Choose your operating system on boot. Once Vista is installed on your newly-created partition, on boot up, you'll get a choice to start XP or Vista. The default is Vista. However, this can be changed using Vista's boot manager.

im running vista and have been for awhile now. sure it may have a few flaws but i think it runs great and i havent had many problems with software or games. all my games still work fine. if you wanna keep xp pro also you may have to create another partition, one for vista and one for xp. you might have to start of fresh for both and re-install both OS's which can be done through the cd during installation of the OS. just ref-format the hard drive and create one partion for xp, install it and then go through the same thing for vista.

F disk is historic destroy it and throw it away. All i've got ever achieved is placed the disk in the CD or DVD rom close it and close the laptop off. Then i've got restarted the laptop and the laptop installs it going into setup, you'll have on no account used F disk, quite on those extra moderen desktops. even with the undeniable fact that, no injury achieved to the confusingcontinual. this is the only way we study. you will get it precise yet. XP is meant to be self installation, perhaps your settings are actually not precise. you like it as nicely to the CD or DVD rom on startup so this is going to seize the disk precise away.

If you are worried about losing the MCE capabilities, you have nothing to worry about. Vista comes with MCE. It is possible to partition your hard drive and have two operating systems on one physical hard drive. I just did it with two hard drives a few days ago on my laptop.

DON'T DO IT!!
Haven't you seen all the problems with Vista?
I'm sure we'll see you here next week asking why something isn't installing properly or why your favorite game isn't working.
