A name tattoo is bad luck. It means the one you love will turn away from you. I have heard the one about a tattoo disappearing after a decade.
I never heard the one about cancer, but that is pretty funny that people believe that.

The weirdest myth I've ever heard is to not put anything on it at all while it's healing. A kid in my high school (back about 4 years ago) got a big tattoo on his arm at some bumpkin shop, and they told him not to do anything to take care of it at all...no cleaning, no lotion, nothing!
Not putting lotion on it and allowing it to dry out leads to scabs, and excess skin pealing, both of which pull out the color unnecessarily.

Well I haven't heard many.
But definitely the STUPIDEST myth I've heard is that if you have a lower back tattoo you cannot get an epidural while in labor.

That your ink will 'disappear' after about 10 years. I work at a tattoo shop and we have people come in all the time asking if its true that it will be gone in 5 - 10 years... uhh, its a tattoo, its permanent stupid!!!!

I've read all your answers and heard of some of them. The one that would irritate me is when I was pregnant with my first child, this stupid lady would tell me that the ink from the tattoos I already had would sink into my unborn baby and give her ink poison. How crazy this lady was...got on my nerves!

Put lots of ointment on it, keep it wet and it'll heal faster.
Keeping it "wet" will actually delay healing. The ideal environment for healing is just "moist". When your tattoo starts feeling dry or tight, add just a small amount of ointment to moisturize the skin.
