I was struck by my DI --- SUCK IT UP

If you couldn't handle being a Marine then you shouldn't have signed up. Simple truth -- DIs do what is needed to produce men.

Not anymore. In olden days, recruits were taught that they are not above anyone else by physical abuse. However, today, that is not allowed at all. I won't say nobody is ever beaten in boot camp. I was in the navy, and even there I saw some things (never part of) that were definitely not allowed. So to say that nobody gets hit during boot camp would be a lie. However, to say it is common practice, would be far worse a lie. Nobody should be physically beaten during boot camp. I doubt you will ever experience such actions. Drill instructors are afraid of repercussions, and will not do what they feel is unnecessary. However, if they value you, and feel a little "TLC" will encourage you to become a better soldier, they might just do what is necessary to make the you all you can be.

He hit you because you did not pay attention and you were a f%ckup, as you call it. When the bullets fly and the incoming rounds start coming in you need to pay attention or you get killed or someone else killed. He did his job. The Marine Corps has been training f%ckup to be Marines for 230+ years, now who do you think knows how to train Marines some liberal lawyer or a combat Marine.

He was absolutely right. Why? Because you cry like a little girl. Besides no one really believes you served anyways. I did 14 years US Army and as much as I would like to bust a Marines chops in this case I can't. There is just no way a Marine could cry this much and still breath.

It was wrong for him to hit you if you were in the Corps before 1994 or 95 I believe. That is when they began enforcing DI's not to hit or strike their recruits.

If you went on to become one of the few.... then what he did, he did to make you into a proud Marine. If not, then he was right about you being a fuckup and no wonder he hit you.
