I would definitely go to another vet for a second opinion. If you live in the US, you can use this link to find a cat specialist: http://www.aafponline.org/ (click the 'find an AAFP doctor' link at the top of the page)

Baby food sometimes contains onions or onion powder, which are very bad for cats - read the labels carefully.

Dry food is a big problem for cats in kidney failure. Hydration is vital, so feeding a good canned food is important. Please see this article: http://www.catchatradio.com/QA/qa_crf.htm

This page has a list of the safe foods vs. the recalled foods:

These pages may be helpful to you - they have a lot of good information about kidney failure in cats, and diet:

There's also a yahoo! group for people with cats suffering from CRF (chronic renal failure, aka kidney failure - k/d stands for kidney diet).

I hope your girl is doing better soon.

Why did you stop feeding the k/d? It wasn't on the recall list! Hills m/d was (the diabetic diet) and that was voluntary.

Please put her back on the k/d food. She's lost weight as you've said, so being off it is not doing her any good. She has kidney problems, so I would say the likelihood is the vomiting is due to that

Do not feed the cat human baby food. It has very little, if anything in it that is going to help even a healthy cat, let alone a sick one. It could even by contributing towards the sickness.

If you feel your current vet isn't helping you, do find a second opinion. Do is asap though, and get her back on that k/d since stopping it seems to have done her some harm!

Go for a second opinion.

Losing weight can be a lot of things from diabetes to a thyroid condition. Simple blood/urine tests should be able to confirm what the problem is.

Baby food doesn't have the nutrients that cats need, so I wouldn't plan on feeding it to her long term. Sometimes at the shelter, very sick cats are fed baby food, but that's for a short amount of time.

oh definitely, try different vets, i've gone to some male vets (i'm male lol) that don't like cats, hardly even touch, others (even male vets may like cats, one i go to now [older vet from up north and his wife], he's got cats running all over his clinic, lol), yeah had one older cat who was told had a bit of kidney problems, vet said k/d can diet ok, but main importance was for the cat to eat or can develop fatty liver and other problems from lack of eating (he even said feed anything if doesn't eat the k/d or mix fancy feast anything with k/d), they also sell different brands of diets for kidney disease besides science diet k/d, petsmart where i live have different prescription brands the vet can prescribe, and if another vet said has to be on prescribed diet for kidney disease, they won't even charge you an office visit at petsmart vet, just give you a little card that allows you to purchase the different prescription brands at the register.

most female vets like cats LOL, i used to take my cats to one, but one time months later i went back, she wasn't there they said she may have moved way far across town, the new male vet there didn't like cats lol.

older vet with beard (may have been drunk lol, last name marks, don't go to clinics by name of "petvet", he even wanted to put cat to sleep, he said with slurred accent, "....this cat is telling you he wants to die..." full of bs, didn't even prescribe or do anything for him, was just fine when went to another vet even turned out had a bit of a tooth problem why didn't want to eat and drink as much either, even got better and healthier and was jumping around.

Some friendly ideas from one cat owner to another: If your vet isn't willing to listen to you, find another.

I hope you get the advice you are looking for.
