I wanted a NICE cat all my life and I got a cat. well this cat is the cat from hell. she used to claw us constantly until she was declawed as a kitten. ( she's 3 now ). Now she bites me every chance she gets, she doesn't always use the litter box. I should mention we got her from a barn. anyway how can i convince my mother to get rid of this B*tch of a cat and get a small dog instead?

I have had a dog before and they are much better pets. I don't mean to be hostile towards the cat but she is nothing but mean and nasty to me even when i am nice to her.

She bites my mom too. Not just me. she bit my aunt once. she'll bite anybody for no apparent reason.

to the last person to answer: Dear, I am 22 years old, living with my dear cancer survivor mother. We have had dogs before and we did quite well. we can only have a small dog here, one that doesn't weigh more than 25 pounds.

oh good god these answers are awful!! NEVER kill your kitty!! you could go to jail in many many states for that!! dont "lose" her either, thats just as cruel, and many house cats CANT fend for themselves just dumped outdoors!! thats almost a death sentence and a horrible one at that! being used to getting fed daily in a bowl and now needing to fend for itself and find its own food?!!? PLUS shes declawed?!?! how would she get food? how would she protect herself at all?? also, please dont give her away free in the paper!! if its really that bad, just sit down with your mom and talk to her about your concerns with the cat. maybe put her up for adoption; NEVER free, but please make sure you do advise she "can be aggressive" she may do very well in a laid back home, perhaps an older couple who wont bother her much, but just have her as some company. even if its awful for you, please dont put this cats life in jeopardy. take your time to find her a good home thats shes compatible with, and then go from there. be advised though, puppies are a ton of work, and will take a ton of your time as well. much more than a cat takes! good luck, and im glad you gave the kitty some time, rather than decide to just toss her away years ago. please find her a good home!

You adopted a wild cat. That was a mistake.

Bring the cat to your nearest animal shelter and give it away.

I'm disappointed to read that you have such disregard for this cat. Clearly you should not own a pet; cat or dog, until you can be more responsible for yourself first.

How old are you? A small dog will not be a good substitute, especially since you took home a stray, feral cat and expected it to be like the docile cats in the animal shelters who were previously owned or raised in captivity unlike most barn cats which are wild.

I would wait until you are at least 21, living on your own, with a stable income and some savings before you adopt a cat from a shelter. The cost of keeping a cat is expensive when you take into account the monthly vet visits for vaccinations, un-expected injuries or illnesses that require treatment and the cost of medication, not to mention the cost of dry/canned food, litter, litterbox, litterbox bags, scooper, brush, treats, the list goes on.

Please give this cat away to a local animal shelter. Put the cat's needs before your own, in this case. It's the responsible thing to do.

You will be ready for a pet cat or dog when you can afford to support yourself and support a pet without your mother's assistance.

Good luck!

I know it's frustrating. Our first cat was abandoned as a kitten, and found when she was a couple days old by my cousins. We got her when she was about six months old.

It took her a really long time to get attached to us, and she would still bite occasionally if say, we pet her for too long (she was a weirdo). But aside from that, she did bond to us. She'd follow me around the house if we were home alone and curl up in my lap and purr. I always wanted a cat that would let me pick her up and cuddle her, but mine wasn't like that.

And you know what? It was okay. She died about a month ago and I can't even believe how much I miss her dumb little antics. Your cat has been through a lot, but be patient. Reward him with treats when he behaves. Talk nicely to him. Don't yell. If he doesn't improve, and you can't give him the loving home he deserves, then try to find another family for him. And next time you get a cat, try finding a kitten that doesn't mind being held. We got ours from the humane society, and he's so social and loving. Cats can be wonderful companions.

Oh my god, your mum has been possessed by vegetables! Seriously, though. Cats have short digestive tracts and cannot cope with high amounts of fibre, because she won't have time to be able to digest them properly. Your cat needs a meat-based high in protein and fat food, low in fibre, otherwise your cat will be malnourished and will, eventually, die of starvation. If your 'mother' still believes she should have a vegitarian diet, remind her that cats aren't humans and have TOTALLY different dietary needs. If all else fails, and your cruel mother insists on feeding veggies instead of meat, get rid of the cat. It's for her own safety, after all. And tell her: you can't stop the animals being slaughtered for meat for pets, but you CAN stop the death of your cat. Your mother seems to believe she is helping animals and not being cruel by not feeding meat. What she's doing is the exact opposite. EDIT: Awww, I know how hard it can be to say goodbye, but if their previous owners live close you may be able to visit her? Just remind yourself -you will be saving this cat's life. EDIT X2: And, anyway, how deos your mum plan to make your kitty vegetarian? Put carrots in it's food bowl? Lol! I guarantee you, the cat will leave it, go outside, kill some animals, eat them and leave the carcasses on the doorstep.

Oh, you got a barn cat. Those aren't very socialized as a rule. You need a different cat. But if you can't convince Mom to do that, then keep a spray bottle with water handy, and if that cat even looks like it is going to bite, spray it. Keep the litter box cleaned out as that can be a cause of them not wanting to use it.
But this isn't much of a pet. No clue as to what you are going to do with Kitty From Hell.

I would recomend taking the cat to the vet and have it checked out that there isn't any medical cause for this behavior they maybe able to give you something to calm her so she isn't attacking anyone.

getting a cat declawed a lot of times will result in the cat acting inappropriatly, like biting and litter box adversion.

try wearing the cat out at least once each day get a string toy, (probably with a long string and pole and play with her with that have her run around and chase it and all.

You declawed it. That's why it's biting you. Once the cat loses its claws, it may start biting since it can't defend itself the normal way.

If she doesn't always use the litterbox, she may be sick, the litterbox might not be clean enough, or she hasn't been spayed. If she's still having litterbox problems, she needs a visit to the vet.

If you got her from the barn, she is probably part feral. Did you work with her at all? Sounds like she wasn't socialized properly.

Have you read cat care books or read up on sites? I can't imagine a cat just walking up to someone and biting them for the heck of it.

Note that if you get rid of it, it may end up euthanized. If your mom likes this cat, sounds like she has a better relationship with it than you do.

Barn cats, without proper human contact when kittens, will behave this way.

On top of that, your parents mutilated and removed her only defense, (claws), so now her only defense IS biting. I cannot IMAGINE the pain that cat has gone through, for behaving EXACTLY as it should--only to have it's toes removed and possibly be yelled at for following instinct.

Please consider asking your parents to take her to a HUMANE SOCIETY.

This is why pets should NEVER EVER EVER be given as gifts, especially to children!

Whatever you do, dont drop it somewhere and forget about her. Just be honest with her then you can take her to a shelter. While your there, you can pick out a nice loving dog.

I'm kind of disturbed by your hostility towards this cat. If you can't handle a cat with an attitude, you definitely can't handle a dog. Dogs are ALOT harder to care for.
