It does not matter what the breed or what your pup weighs.

Female puppies can come into heat anywhere between 4 and 8 months. Most generally around the 6 month period.

Puppies generally go into heat at about 6 months but this dependson the dog. Larger breeds mature at a slower speed than smaller dogs so it may be closer to 10months before she comes into heat. However she should come into heat by the time she is 18months if she doesnt and hasnt been spayed there could be something seriously wrong with her reproductive system. I dont understand why your vet wont spay her until she is 6months. Most vets recommend you spay/neuter them at a younger age because they heal faster and their bodies havent gone under the change of hormones. Generally the younger the better is the rule of thumb, and most vets will do them as young as six to eight weeks. You might want to consider finding a new vet or maybe taking you puppy to a spay/neuter clinic.

Any time after about 6 months old. 6 months is the normal at age which most vets will spay (some will do it at 4 months, and some will do it earlier)...just be sure not to put off making that appointment when she hits 6 months. If she comes into season before you spay, you'll have to wait until after she's done (at least 3 weeks) before your vet will spay her.

Six months is the general age for females to go into heat. Which, btw, is the correct term for a female dog going on her "period." I have heard of some dogs going into their first heat cycle early. It's very uncommon. That is why vets don't spay until they are six months. Females will have a heat cycle about twice a year. Some can have it more than that. I had a female rottweiler that went into heat during her regular cycle and then whenever another one of my females went into their heat cycle. It made for a very loud house at the time I had her. My males were crying all the time.
It won't be a problem for her to go through one heat cycle before getting her spayed if she happens to get it early. Just wait until it ends and get her in. Keep her away from all intact males! You don't need a litter of pups. Good luck!

The vet has told you six months because this is usually the best time to catch the dog before she goes into heat for the first time (a dog's season is not the same as a human's period).

Make an appointment for when she turns six months old. The old wives tale that you should wait for the dog to have her first heat before spaying her is still floating around - ignore this if anyone tries to tell it to you. You need to spay BEFORE the first heat to provide maximum chance of avoiding mammary cancer.

We had our puppy spayed at 4 months, maybe you should call around to other vet offices. Puppies can start going into heat anywhere between 4-7 months. Once they go into heat, you can still have them spayed, but it will cost extra.

Some dogs can go into heat as early as 6 months, however 8-9 months is the norm. Now one of my Llewellin setters didn't have her first heat until she was 1 yr. old. And it lasted much longer than the usual 3 weeks. Each dog is different. But I think you probably don't have much to worry about. I would follow my vet's advice.

Dogs will go into heat anywhere from 9-12 months of age. I would consult another vet about the spay because most will do it after 8 weeks of age.

As others said, it is not a interval. They come into season someplace between eight months - 18 months. It relies on the canine. 11-365 days is extra customary. They are going to bleed for 21 stable days. Usually more. The scent is beautiful unhealthy. And also you are not able to go away them for your yard even for a minute. The musky scent travels over an excellent mile, calling any intact mutt within the subject. Some feminine Boxer bleed worse than a human woman. For a man, it's a genuine eye opener if you find yourself having to buy female hygiene products and altering bloody sanitary pads every 2 hours for your canine :)
