Everything is a sin if you subscribe to the right religion.

It's a sin to act in a way that is against your faith and what you believe is correct. This must be understood and taken in context, though. If you think it's wrong to subscribe to HBO because they air programs that contain nudity, foul language, and other things that you find offensive, but you do it anyway because you want to see nudity and hear foul language, then it is a sin for you to do so. If you abstain from watching the questionable shows, but watch some of the documentaries and other wholesome programming, or the movies that are on during the day, then it's not a sin as long as you can justify supporting the company to yourself.

It's not a sin for someone else to do it, though. That's the extremist mentality that starts religious wars and creates bigotry, hatred, and divides people. You can not push or force your views on other people, and to do so is what the terrorists are all about. It’s different issues – I don’t think that the Taliban is fighting Cinemax, per se, but it’s the idealism that only one way of thinking is correct, and anyone who thinks or believes differently is not only wrong, but the enemy. The bible preaches “live and let live”, but too many religious fundamentalists won’t do that. They do not want to allow people to do, watch, listen to, or involve themselves in activities that they believe to be wrong.

If you’re not comfortable with paying HBO money every month because you believe them to be peddlers of smut, then don’t pay HBO money every month – but don’t judge your friends and neighbors who don’t hold the same views as you. It is neither your responsibility nor your right to make moral judgments or decisions about what other people do or do not do. That is between them, and their God.

It would not be a sin to have movie channels as long as you watch good things. I would stay away from any strong sexual content and extreme violence. If you have children I would put parental controll on certain stations especially late night.

God alone judges the heart. Why someone would want to watch HBO for any other purpose than good ol' entertainment escapes me at the moment. But I can't see hearts(motives).

Do people enjoy them? If so, I bet some pastor or priest has a problem with it.

I don't have it because it's a waste of money for me.
