It really depends on their situation. Many of them come from horrible family situations: some were raped/molested from a very young age, family (or themselves) on drugs, insufficient education (no high school diploma), bad influences from family/close friends. If you are surrounded by that everyday and that's all you know, you are either going to do a 180 and do the opposite or you are going to fall into that trap and do what you have been exposed to all your life (the latter usually is the case).
Yes it's disrespecting themselves, but if you don't have self esteem and very low confidence in your potential then why would you respect yourself? If someone was in such a bad situation that they would even start doing something of the sort, what makes you think that they learned how to respect themselves in the first place?
Our society is so focused on money and material things and instant self gratification. There is no shame found in big CEO's or movie/music stars. Sex is idolized and promoted everywhere. Just look around.
People have this idea that you have to "hustle by any means neccesary" and sometimes in the "hood" and in the "ghetto" it just simple survival. Money pays the bills and put food on the table. I know that no one can make you do things you don't want to but sometimes under the pressure of potential homelessness and hunger you are so worried about getting money now that you make a decison too fast.
And to answer your last question, not everyone knows how and where to look for true love and companionship. If they did they wouldn't be a porn star or prostitute.

I don't know why but I'd the last to judge someone else. However, consider that when there is demand there is offer. And when it comes to sex the demand is much higher than the offers (including both professional & not) otherwise there would be no so many incidents of women/children working as sex slaves. So, I think that if these people were not doing what they are doing the sex slaves would be many more.
Blasphemy is a sin too. Remember Mary Magdalene.

Its easy to judge someone when you have never been in their position. For some people it starts off as a casual thing, they may have a pile of bills to pay and need quick cash. The money is easy and theres quite a bit of it.
Some people like the idea of being porn stars, the thought of doing all that infront of camera and loads of people seeing.
And like someone said, if they are so beneath you, why spend all this time thinking about it.

I have met a few strippers who were married and their husbands actually frequented the strip club they worked at. I am not sure about escorts or porn stars, I am sure some do get married or are married.

Unfortunately, some people are brought up differently.
They may have been exposed to some bad things.
Who knows really.
But certainly, those who are in the trade... definitely have a hard time articulating their experiences and feelings.
Sex, might be the only thing they are good at?

Sadly, most of them don't believe they have any other options. They are trapped in a life style that they can't escape.
Then there are those that enjoy it. Gross, I know. I think they have low self esteem and this is a sick way of getting or building it up. They feel validate by the idea that men, regardless of their appearance or status, are willing to pay to be with them.

depends on a lot of factors --- they may like the work/money/sex ---- it may also be legal where they are and they do respect themselves and they do live normal lives --- they have children get married get divorced and i would not have a problem going out with any ladies --- provided of course that there was a connection between us --- intellectual and emotional

they do it for a variety of reasons. some do it to pay the rent and to put food in their families mouths. the majority dont go around shouting about what they do as they arnt proud of it and just see it as a means to an end. and if ppl judge them on what they do to earn money then i hope the ppl who are doing the judging are pure and have no faults. ppl do what they need to do to make ends meet. if there was no demand for it they wouldnt be able to do it.
