Ok so my chihuahua is pregnant and very close to delivering and now she has fleas. I can't get an appointment at the grooming center until next week. The only shampoo that i have says not to use on pregnant or nursing dogs. What can I do?
and to clarify my dog is ready to give birth at any point.

DO NOT USE REGULAR FLEA SHAMPOO ON HER. NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS. GO TO YOUR LOCAL PET SUPPLY STORE, OR WALMART, AND PICK UP SOME DE FLEA. IT'S LIKE $10.00 A BOTTLE, BUT IT CAN BE USED ON PREGNANT/NURSING DOGS, AND EVEN PUPS UNDER 12 WEEKS. IT ALSO WORKS REALLY WELL. IT EVEN SAYS ON THE BOTTLE THAT IT CAN BE USED.

Go to your vet to get some safe treatment. Do not use anything from petshops. Do not bother washing the dog with soap - it might rinse the fleas off, so what, they're in the environment too and they'll reinfest the dog within hours if you don't use some actual preventative treatment.
Frontline SPRAY (not drops) is safe for use on pregnant and nursing b itches, and puppies from 2 days of age.

Call the vet and double check with them over the phone, but most vets say that it is ok to use Advantage or Frontline plus drops on pregnant or nursing dogs. You need to do something before she has the pups otherwise you'll risk losing those pups. The fleas will kill them. By using the drops, they prevent the fleas from attacking the pups as well and won't harm them. So call your vet and ask about using the drops on her to be sure. Good luck!

My chihuahua went through the same thing. It was her first litter and she was one week away from delivery when I noticed she had fleas. I called our vet and they said there is nothing I could do right now. They told me NOT to bathe her because it can put her under stress and its NOT reccomended. Also you can not give her any flea/tick medication because of the puppies and nursing. You kinda have to wait it out. My dog had her puppies (which are now one month old), and they all have fleas. It's not fun...but nothing we can do about it. they've already been seen by our vet who told me that once they are done nursing, we can treat all of them... but not before then.

just put your dog in a tub full of warm to hot water. Remember not too hot because you can burn your dog. Fill the water up too her neck and leave her in there at least 15 minutes. the fleas will start to drown but you have to make sure that you put some baby shampoo on her head because if not the fleas will just move to her head.

There are flea & Tick Shampoos and drops that are safe for pregnant and nursing dogs, ask your vet to advise you but Absolutly get rid of them they will infest the puppys and cause tape worm. Do not hesitate start the process today.

Have you try a Flea comb? I'm sure it's available in petsmart or petco... Look for Groomax line. Also, you can look over internet for Koolatron Flea Zapper... just to avoid the chemicals if possible.

Call your vet! They will know the best plan of action for your chihuahua. Being that she is pregnant it makes it really difficult to get the correct treatment over the counter. Just call your vet... explain, they will tell you what to do.

Any soap suffocates the fleas
Use baby shampoo and let it Set on her about 7 mins.
The fleas will die but you will still have to treat your house and yard or they will return right away
