It's time for a revolution.
We have been hearing about this country's energy crisis for years, yet our dependence on foreign oil has deepened, our fuel efficiency standards have stagnated, and our greenhouse gas emissions have multiplied exponentially. The time for incremental change and conventional thinking is long gone.
Today I'm calling for a New American Revolution - an energy and climate revolution.
I have a real plan to reverse global warming. Click here to endorse my bold new agenda.
There are five crucial elements to my plan:
Cut oil demand: 50% by 2020. Increasing the gas mileage of the average car to more than 50 mpg is just one way to help achieve this goal.
Change to Renewable Sources for Electricity: 50% by 2040. We could save customers $21 billion a year by 2020 by changing to alternative energy sources.
Dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions: 90% by 2050. We must set strict limits on emissions. We'll do it by instituting a market-based cap and trade syst

Sounds far fetched! Of course their are things that every person can do without trying to figure out a way to increase gas mileage and using renewable resources. First try car pooling, or taking mass transportation, like a bus! I have been involved with car pooling for my work for over a year now, it has saved me somewhere in the area of 780 gallons of gas x that by the $3 a gallon it is now, saved me $2340. That's just one example of probably many other ways that we can help our environment. Take the yahoo green challenge to learn more.

We need to focus on both conservation and alternative energy. We can start conserving today, but developing alternative energy sources sufficient to meet our needs will take time.

Some people have suggested that we could reduce the time necessary to develop alternative energy sources by instituting a “Manhattan Project” for alternative energy. If we were able to develop the atomic bomb (which, after all, produces a type of energy) with the technology we had back in the 1940s, we can surely solve our energy problems with the technologies we have today (and can develop tomorrow).

Alternative energy is critical because conservation alone will not save us. The economies of India and China, as well as other developing countries, are growing rapidly; they will buy up and use any oil we save by reducing our usage, and they are, proportionally, worse polluters than we are.

We need to get on the phones and start pushing our elected officials to get moving on alternative energy. We also need to write them frequently and demand that they do something to address this impending crisis.

Why overlook the six years the Republicans were in charge with clear non-negotiable majorities in all branches of government? They could have passed a law demanding the killing of sweet puppies if they had wanted to, there was no way to stop them from deregulating banks, credit and mortgage industries, an end to pollution controls, they pushed through tons of business friendly laws and resolutions, and revoked regulations and restrictions on businesses, they even made bankruptcy a bonanza for creditors. So why didn't they take time out to ensure our nations oil supply? No, Bill Clinton isn't directly responsible, he must have been right, after all, they never changed it when they had the chance.

We need to be realistic that energy must be produced in quantities equal to demand. We waste money on kilowatt solar panels, 1.3Mw wind turbines when just the GROWTH of demand is in the tens of thousands of Mw. We discovered nuclear power. It is a huge economic advantage for France, Japan and others. With nuclear power, our electric bills could be 1/3 what they are now and lower the cost of American goods. All with zero emissions of green house gases. Isn't time we got real about nuclear power? It is a proven solution already at hand. I remember well what you said to the staff a Bellefonte Nuclear Plant when you were there.

I believe renewable sources of energy can be achieved by educating the public and by persuading the utilities to allow net metering for customers to produce electricity from solar sources. Net metering is available in 40 states and in D.C. That means ten states have none. Here in Florida only two utilities allow net metering. The largest utility, FLP, is the largest producer of wind power in this country! Does this make sense in today's world when we have more sunshine than most of the country? The wind power is harnessed in New York, not in our own state. Our govenor wants to give money for solar projects, but no one has mentioned net metering. The politicians need to open their eyes to the reality in this state. Consumers in California are allowed to produce energy from solar sources and in other states. Wake up Tallahassee!

Richardson is the greatest fraud that has ever had the arrogance to ask for votes. He and his close buddy B. Clinton signed legislation that cost every homeowner at least 30% extra when they replace their air conditioner. It only benefits people in very hot climates.
He has not had a good idea in his entire public service.
How can he control the largest job in the world when he can't even control his diet.

I totally agree with you that we need a revolution of change. We need this now. The days of namby, pamby leadership have long since past.

The days ahead are critical. We must act expeditiously. There is no time left. These are critical days ahead.

I couldn't agree with you more. I am trying to launch my own urgent campaign in Canada. We need to change our way of life. This needs to become the new norm.

Bravo to you and tell me how you are going to affect change in your community? What are you going to do?

Myself, we have a Federal election coming up and I am planning to run as a candidate. My only problem is trying to raise over $100,000.00 in a short period of time.

Do you know of any philanthropists who might be willing to contribute?

Keep on speaking up. Keep on making noise. Never give up. Never quit. We are fighting for the very survival of so many things on this planet.

Go where there is no path and leave a trail my friend! Bravo to you. We truly need to think globally and act locally and we need to do it now. Time has run out for our planet.

energy crisis or high gasoline prices. If i remember correctly, this subject was raised to a visiting saudi official in which he replied" we can give you all the oil you wanted, but u need new refineries to refine them'. most of our oil refineries are over 20 years old n yet there is no new ones being built. Why? because of the people are opposed to it, rasing the fear of more pollutions. So i say to this, quit your belly aching abour energy crisis or oil prices.
