Stepping on or drawing blood with something metal and rusty can give you blood poisoning. Google tetnus treatment for information.

If you get blood poisoning you will see a red line going up your leg. With out a Tetnus shot and they do need to be renewed every 10 years. With out the shot you will get lock jaw. I am not sure if they have a treatment once it reaches that stage.
It used to be death. But they may have a treatment now.

Ideally you will go directly to a walk in clinic or an emergency room for a Tetinus shot.

There is a possibilty of infection by a tetanus organism if you are around animal feces particularly.

You can get lockjaw and tetenus. I've heard it's very painful
