While I love Buddhism, I think this is the wrong approach ("My religion is better than your religion.!"). A Christian saint and a Buddhist arahant are both people who have followed their religions carefully, diligently, and with great effort, and have become exemplary human beings embodying admirable human qualities. Traditional Christianity has deep, esoteric transformative practices akin to those found in Buddhism. Both teach high morality, compassion, kindness, mindfulness, wisdom, and so on. The difference is that Christians and Muslims are usually exclusivist and expansionist, so in some respects (tolerance, lack-of-dogmatism, etc), you're right. Buddhism is better. And Buddhism can accommodate atheists and skeptics, whereas theistic religions generally can't.

No, because Buddhism has a set ethical system, an afterlife, and a belief that there is a cosmic form of justice. Atheism does not believe in an afterlife, the ethics are practical and flexible, and the general consensus is that the only justice is that which we humans create ourselves.

Princeton defines religion as "a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny." So since Buddhism believes certain things must be done to control your destiny, it is a religion.
I prefer simply having a relationship with my Lord and Savior and leaving the legalism out of it.

No. Go to a Pure Land Vietnamese Buddhist Temple and tell them they are atheists. See what they say...Buddhism is a religion, with a most definite belief in the Divine.

No, Buddism is a religion. True, it's a way of life, but it is also a belief .... Buddists believe in a higher power and some sort of spiritual heaven....been years since i've studied religion and can't remember what their heaven is called sorry :(.... therefore, it is a study and a spiritual belief. Buddists are awesome people and the most tempered individuals I've met, so I know that even if it wasn't a religion, they are truely Godly in my opinon.

Buddhism is an atheistic religion. It qualifies as a religion because it proposes a spiritual philosophy, a set of beliefs and guidelines for living.
Taoism is another like this.
It doesn't have to have deities to be a religion.

You don't need a bearded old man in the sky making rules for it to be a religion. The fact that it doesn't hang everything on a bearded old man actually makes it more appealing to many people.

Buddhism is a path that is empty of inherent existence just like everything else is. In plain English the "label" people give it matters not one whit to those ON it.

The standards are set so low that even such religions as christianity can qualify. So, why do you ask?
