Well im glad you are considering taking a protein shake..especially whey protein it is great for muscle recovery and helping you make gains in muscle size....Its best to try to consume a little bit of protein before you work out so your body will have protein to feed off of and some after usually 23-25 grams(one serving) after to help aid in muscle recovery and growth....most importanty drink one after a workout if nothing else! I would reccomend you taking it with skim milk if you want to gain muscle with less calories in the shake of or 2% milk if you really want to put on some size. It may take 3-5 months for you to see a change when looking at yourself but whey protein is the best and only supplement I would reccommend. Muscles are made of protein and water...so you have to feed your muscles! Hope this helps

post workout take your whey with water. when whey is mixed with water and consumed on an empty stomach amino acids can reach the bloodstream in about 15-20 minutes. when mixed with milk about 1-1.5 hours
